Notes: RbTiOPO4 has been periodically poled for first-order quasi-phase matching. The poling was monitored using a technique based on the electro-optic effect, which enabled fabrication of high-quality domain gratings for efficient frequency doubling to the blue. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: A method to periodically pole conductive ferroelectric materials has been developed. With this method we have fabricated high quality domain inverted crystals of flux grown KTiOPO4 suitable for efficient quasi-phase matched frequency conversion. Samples have been evaluated by second harmonic generation and normalized conversion efficiencies up to 6.9%/W cm2 have been obtained. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Abstract We have previously found that tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) induce apoptosis in quiescent human lymphocytes. The aim of the present study was to evaluate if TCAs induce apoptosis in proliferating human lymphocytes and in established blastoid lymphocytes also. The development of conA-induced lymphoblast populations was followed by measuring the CD25 membrane expression. Three TCA compounds were run with the following concentrations: imipramine (10, 20, 30, 40, 60μ M), clomipramine (1, 10, 20, 30, 40μ M) and citalopram (40, 60, 80, 100, 180μ M). They all induced a dose-dependent apoptosis both in continuously transformed, as well as in established lymphoblasts. Preincubation of the TCA up to 48 h did not significantly increase induction of apoptosis. The three drugs tested were found to be potent inducers of apoptosis in proliferating lymphocytes. Furthermore, we found that the apoptotic populations in proliferating and in established blastoid lymphocytes were of f airly the same magnitude than in the corresponding population in TCA-incubated resting lymphocytes. In conclusion, we demonstrate that TCAs induce apoptosis in proliferating lymphocytes, as they do in quiescent lymphocytes. Furthermore, the exent of apoptosis was even more pronounced in TCA-incubated lymphoblasts compared to TCA-treated resting lymphocytes.

Notes: 4 (PPKTP). We generated 12 μW of radiation tunable around 1.6 μm by difference-frequency mixing of the outputs of a frequency-doubled Nd:YLF laser at 523 nm (240 mW) and a tunable Ti:sapphire laser near 760 nm (340 mW). A temperature tuning rate of 0.73 nm/°C for the generated wavelength and a FWHM temperature acceptance bandwidth of 6.9 °C cm was observed. The effective d33 coefficient was estimated to be ∼5 pm/V.

Notes: A direct full configuration interaction approach, previously used for studying individual low-lying eigenvalues, is combined with iterative Lanczos calculations, in order to obtain global properties of large Hermitean Hamiltonian matrices. To this effect systematic generation of random start vectors is used to compute statistical approximations to the density of states (DOS). Applications for cyclic polyenes in order to illustrate the viability of the scheme modeled by correlated, high-binding Pariser-Parr-Pople (PPP) Hamiltonians of increasing complexity are presented. The degree of correlation in the solutions is controlled by the parameter β. Convergence properties of the DOS for N = 10 and N = 14 are studied varying the extent of correlation. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Int J Quant Chem 63: 719-728, 1997
