    Notizen: Abstract: Male Sprague-Dawley rats (325–350 g) were anesthetized with urethane (1.5 g/kg i.p.) and treated with physiological saline, Aspartame (APM; 552 μmol/kg), or tyrosine (Tyr; 552 μmol/kg). Ganglionic transmission and the synthesis of dopamine (DA) and norepinephrine (NE) were measured in the superior cervical ganglion (SCG) following electrical stimulation of the cervical sympathetic trunk (CST). When the CST was stimulated with single pulses, neither APM nor Tyr affected the synthesis of NE or DA. However, in response to low- (5 Hz, 20 s) and high- (20 Hz, 20 s) frequency pulses, the metabolism of DA was increased (p 〉 0.05), but to the same extent after saline, APM, or Tyr. In rats stimulated with similar low- and high-frequency pulses, the synthesis of NE was increased significantly (p 〉 0.05) after Tyr, but not after APM or saline. In saline-treated controls, ganglionic transmission was not changed in response to single pulses, or low- or high-frequency stimulation. However, after treatment with APM, ganglionic transmission was depressed significantly (p 〉 0.01) in response to high-frequency stimulation (single: 0.46 ± 0.09 mV; low: 0.39 ± 0.07 mV; high: 0.27 ± 0.07 mV). After treatment with Tyr, ganglionic transmission was depressed significantly (p 〉 0.05) in response to both low- and high-frequency stimulation (single: 0.44 ± 0.04 mV; low: 0.22 ±0.12 mV; high: 0.26 ± 0.07 mV). In the nonstimulated SCG, l-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (25 mg/kg) caused a rapid, significant (p 〉 0.01) increase in the synthesis and metabolism of DA, but not of NE. Treatment with nialamide (200 mg/kg i.p.) followed by electrical stimulation (15 Hz, 15 min) of the CST caused a significant (p 〉 0.05) increase of both NE and DA in the stimulated SCG. It is concluded that there are both similarities and differences in the regulation of the synthesis of NE and in the modulation of ganglionic transmission after the administration of the precursors APM and Tyr. The results indicate that caution is needed in comparing the neurochemical and neurophysiological effects of different catecholamine precursors.

    Notizen: The level width of a quasibound state due to electron tunneling in a double-barrier resonant tunneling structure in an external electric field is investigated. The result for the width rests on the S-matrix resonant tunneling formalism. The inverse lifetime obtained in this manner is free of small parameter expansion and is exactly the width at the half-maximum of the resonant tunneling rate. It is found that for a system exhibiting current bistability, the level broadening of a quasibound state is not a monotonic function of the applied bias and has a minimum at some intermediate field strength.

    Notizen: A nondestructive technique to study the partial density of states of atoms at buried interfaces is presented. A high density of interface atoms has been mimicked by using a periodic multilayer structure. The silicon-carbon interface was used as a test case. Fifty alternating silicon-carbon layers were laid down, in which silicon layers nominally between 3 and 30 A(ring) in thickness alternate with carbon layer pairs approximately 30 A(ring) thick made by magnetron sputtering. The silicon L2,3 emission spectra was excited by monochromatized synchrotron radiation, and the s-like partial density of states of the silicon valence band was obtained. The spectrum of the thinnest silicon layer is similar to that of silicon as an impurity. When there are approximately two layers of silicon, the spectrum resembles that of silicon carbide, and as the layers become thicker, the spectrum is similar to that of amorphous silicon.

    Notizen: The Fe–B amorphous alloys powders with high boron concentration can be prepared by borohydride reduction (BHR). By adjusting technological factors, the Fe100−xBx amorphous powders with compositions ranging from x=17 to 40 can be easily obtained, but it is difficult to make the amorphous ribbons with such a high B concentration by using rapidly quenched technique, which can usually obtain the amorphous ribbons with the compositions ranging from x=12 to 25. Up to now, there are different points of view about if the short range order (SRO) in the Fe–B amorphous powders prepared by the BHR around room temperature is the same with that in the amorphous ribbons made by rapidly quenched and vapor depositing techniques. In this paper, the SRO in Fe100−xBx amorphous powders with various boron concentration prepared by the BHR have been studied by the zero field spin echo nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique. It was shown that the types of SRO in these samples vary with the B concentration. There exist Fe3B- and Fe2B-like SRO and a small amount of α-Fe in the samples with lower B concentration, while there are Fe3B- and FeB-like SRO in the alloys with higher B concentration. Fe3B-like SRO, however, only exists in the amorphous ribbons obtained by rapidly quenched method. It can be concluded that there are different types of SRO in the amorphous alloys prepared by different methods. This conclusion can explain the reason why the average hyperfine field at Fe sites deceases with the B concentration increasing.

    Notizen: Until now, the origin of hard magnetic properties of rapidly quenched Nd-Fe-B alloys with lower Nd concentration is not clear. In this paper, the phase compositions of rapidly quenched Nd4Fe77.5B18.5 alloys annealed under different conditions have been studied by using zero-field spin-echo nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Mössbauer effect (ME) techniques. It is found that there exists a certain amount of Nd2Fe14B phase in the samples annealed at 960 °C and ingot alloy, which have poor hard magnetic properties; while, the sample annealed under optimal condition consists only of bct-Fe3B as the main phase and a small amount of a-Fe. However, the ME result indicates that about 5 at. % Fe atoms in FeIII (8 g) site of bct-Fe3B have been replaced by Nd atoms; the NMR result demonstrates that 11B NMR spectrum is the characteristic peak of bct-Fe3B, but it broadens asymmetrically to the high frequency side, which is due to the bct-Fe3B influenced by Nd atoms. The amplitude of radio frequency (rf) excitation field required to get the maximum 11B spin-echo signal from bct-Fe3B in the sample annealed at 839 °C is only about one third as much as that required to excite the 11B in the bct-Fe3B influenced by Nd atoms in the sample annealed at 670 °C for a short time, which implies the latter has a larger coercivity field than the former. It is concluded that the origin of hard magnetic properties of Nd4Fe77.5B18.5 alloy is not related to the 2:14:1 phase, but to the change of bct-Fe3B itself.

    Notizen: We report the effect of conversion conditions on the device characteristics of poly(p-phenylene vinylene) (PPV) light-emitting diodes. Both electroluminescence and photoluminescence intensities decrease with increasing degree of conversion. Partial conjugation enhances the electroluminescence intensity and gives an efficiency (with Ca as electron-injecting contact) as high as 0.75% photons per electron, about two orders of magnitude more efficient than from similar devices prepared from fully converted PPV. The results of constant current stress measurements suggest that the partially conjugated PPV diode is relatively stable at room temperature.
