Notes: Abstract An application of the totalγ-absorption (TGA) spectroscopy to measurements of theβ-decay energies (Q) for nuclei far from stability is described. This approach provides theQ-values with accuracies up to 60 keV. TheQ values determined by this method at the IRIS facility for 64 nuclides in the mass region fromA=76 toA=165 are presented.

Notes: Abstract A modified cellular model of liquids is used to develop a method for calculating thermodynamic properties of liquid metals and their alloys, which are widely used in compact modern heat exchange equipment operating at high thermal flux densities. The approach presented herein permits calculation of the properties of metals from various groups by a single consistent technique. Good agreement was found with experimental data for a significant number of liquid metals and their alloys.

Notes: Abstract The processes of thermal decomposition of yttrium(III) tris(dipivaloylmethanate) (Y(dpm)3) vapour and its mixtures with oxygen were investigated by using the two-temperature variant of the double-chamber Knudsen cell, with mass spectrometric recording of the gasphase composition within the temperature range 150°–650°C. The threshold temperatures of the stability of the complex vapour were determined. The temperature dependence of the rate constant was obtained for the thermolysis of Y(dpm)3 vapour, and the effective activation energy of the process was determined. Qualitative data were obtained on the influence of Cu(dpm)2 vapour on the thermolysis of Y(dpm)3 vapour in oxygen atmosphere.

Notes: Abstract The processes of thermal destruction of copper(II) bis(dipivaloylmethanate) (Cu(dpm)2) in the temperature range 150°–550°C were studied by using a two-temperature variant of a double chamber Knudsen cell, with mass spectrometric recording of the gas-phase composition. The temperature range of stability of the vapour of the complex in vacuum was determined, as were those of its mixtures with oxygen in different proportions. The temperature dependence of the rate constant of the thermolysis of (Cu(dpm)2) vapour was obtained. The thermal stability of Hdpm vapour and the influence of oxygen on the thermolysis of the ligand were studied.

Notes: Abstract Mössbauer spectroscopy methods are discussed when applied to test the properties of magnetic suppositories used in medicine. The experiments were carried out on magnetic rectal suppositories containing parmadine and fine-dispersed ferrite powder (BaO·nFe2O3) as a magnetic filler. According to the data on the value of effective magnetic field on57Fe nuclei in ferrite magnetic sublattices, the stoichiometricn-number equals approximately 5.5; this value corresponds to the composition range of optimal magnetic properties.

Notes: Abstract The problem of generation of vortex structures by ejection of a jet through an annular slot on a cylindrical surface in a longitudinal flow is considered. Results of modeling of large-scale vortices and their effect on local characteristics of the wall boundary layer are presented. The modeling is based on numerical integration of the Navier-Stokes equations in an axisymmetric formulation. An unsteady-state flow with separation and entrainment of vortices by the main stream is obtained. The decrease in the friction drag achievable in devices of this kind is estimated.

Notes: Abstract Stability of the properties of magnetite particles in novel medicinal magnetic ointments of multipurpose application was studied using Mössbauer spectroscopy. Comparative analysis of the results obtained by model fitting of57Fe nuclei spectra with those known for the system Fe3O4-γ-Fe2O3 allowed to identify the phase composition of the particles. This composition, as well as that of the initial pure component in the form of a highly dispersed fraction (∼100 Å), differs noticeably from the stoichiometric one. Despite their small sizes, the particles exhibit no superparamagnetism (in the temperature range from 95 to 300 K). Radiative sterilization of the ointments has no effect on the magnetic component composition.
