Notes:
A second-generation helium-jet-coupled ion source of the Bernas–Nier type has been developed for the Chalk River on-line isotope separator. The source features improvements to the anode-cylinder heating system, which enables the anode to reach temperatures exceeding 2000 °C. The source suspension has been redesigned to accommodate the effects of operation at increased temperature in order to maintain critical anode alignment at all power levels, thus assuring a consistent high-resolution ion beam.
