Notes: Abstract Mössbauer spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, ESR and electrical resistivity measurements, were used to study highT c (above 100 K) superconducting materials in order to get information about the effect of the preparation circumstances as well as about the anomalous behaviour in57Fe and119Sn doped TlBaCaCu(57Fe)O4.5+δ and TlBaCuCu(119Sn)O4.5+δ superconductors. We have found that the Mössbauer parameters strongly depend on the preparation circumstances. In many cases the presence of Mössbauer lines of nonsuperconducting oxide phases indicated that the iron and tin could not entirely built in into the lattice of superconductor. Four valence state tin and four valence state iron sites were identified in the superconducting phases. We have found anomalous temperature dependent changes in the57Fe Mössbauer spectra of TlBaCaCu(57Fe)O4.5+δ samples around theT c between 105–135 K. In this temperature range the total area of the spectrum temporary increases.

Notes: Summary Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) spectroscopy was applied for monitoring the orientation and distribution of filler particles in polymer composites by measuring the magnetic anisotropy of naturally occuring Mn(II) centers in CaCO3 and in talc. The amplitude ratio of characteristic ESR bands gives the order parameter. The orientation of the particles changes as a function of composition, dependends on processing technology, the type of molding (injection vs compression molding) and has a specific spatial distribution in the cross-section of the injection molded specimen. Correlation is found between average orientation of anisotropic particles and the mechanical properties of various composites.

Notes: Abstract A series of diethyltin(IV) complexes with carbohydrate ligands (aldoses, polyalcohols, sugar acids, sugar amines, and di- and trisaccharides] was prepared. The compositions of the complexes were determined by standard analytical methods. The results showed that complexes formed containing the diethyltin moiety and the carbohydrate ligand in 1∶1 ratio. The IR spectra were consistent with the presence of tin—carbohydrate oxygen vibrations in the compounds. The comparison of experimental quadrupole splitting values with those calculated on the basis of the partial quadrupole splitting (PQS) concept revealed the compounds to be of three types: complexes in with the central tin(IV) atoms are present in purely trigonal bipyramidal surroundings, ones with the tin(IV) atoms present in purely octahedral surroundings, or ones with both octahedral and trigonal bipyramidal arrangements in approximately 1∶1 ratio. The thermal decompositions showed that some of the complexes decompose via the reduction of tin(IV) to SnO as the final tin-containing product, some of them decompose without reduction, to give SnO2, and some decompose to give indefinite final tin-containing products.

Notes: Abstract ... Mössbauer spectroscopy as well as neutron and gamma spectroscopy were used to study the possibility of cold nuclear fusion in Fe−Zr amorphous alloys deuterized electrolytically both in air and in nitrogen atmosphere. The change in the localization and concentration of deuterium can be sensitively followed by Mössbauer spectroscopy. Significant differences were observed between the spectra of samples deuterized in air and in nitrogen atmosphere. In the case of deuterization performed in air these spectral changes can be explained by decrease of deuterium uptake and small heat effect. These changes can be attributed to reaction of deuterium with oxygen dissolved into water if the isotope effect could be taken into consideration.
