Abstract The seepage of water from a system of channels and irrigation furrows and its interaction with the ground water are investigated in relation to such factors as the capillarity of the soil and the evaporation from the free surface, and their combined effect on the flow structure is evaluated. On the basis of the results of computer calculations the dependence of the seepage rate and the capillary spread on the profile and width of the sources and the distance between them, the head, and the thickness of the soil layer is analyzed.
