Notes: Abstract Two new algorithms and associated neuron-like network architectures are proposed for solving the eigenvalue problem in real-time. The first approach is based on the solution of a set of nonlinear algebraic equations by employing optimization techniques. The second approach employs a multilayer neural network with linear artificial neurons and it exploits the continuous-time error back-propagation learning algorithm. The second approach enables us to find all the eigenvalues and the associated eigenvectors simultaneously by training the network to match some desired patterns, while the first approach is suitable to find during one run only one particular eigenvalue (e.g. an extreme eigenvalue) and the corresponding eigenvector in realtime. In order to find all eigenpairs the optimization process must be repeated in this case many times for different initial conditions. The performance and convergence behaviour of the proposed neural network architectures are investigated by extensive computer simulations.

Description / Table of Contents: Contents This paper presents a semi-analytical method for the calculation of the electromagnetic field due to a three-dimensional incident field which is screened by an infinitely long circular cylindrical conducting and permeable shell. The resulting threedimensional Helmholtz equations are solved by using the method of the separation of variables together with the Fourier Transform applied to the longitudinal field components. The transformed transversal components are represented in terms of the transformed longitudinal components. With the aid of the DFT (discrete Fourier Transform) the three-dimensional incident field can be expanded into a Fourier series and then be transformed. Finally the inverse DFT yields the solution of the boundary value problem. Calculations using the proposed method are presented.

Description / Table of Contents: Übersicht Die Verteilungen von Potential, Stromdichte und Verlustleistungsdichte in einem kreisförmigen, dünnen Film- bzw.
Notes: Contents The potential, current flux and dissipation density distributions in a circular thin film/foil resistor are calculated based on a conformal mapping. The results indicate that the dissipation density at the corner of the contact between the lead and the resistor film/foil reaches infinity. This results in burning down or melting that part of the resistor. Finally, a reasonable contact shape between the lead and the resistor is suggested.

Notes: Contents A new general equivalence transformation for cascades of lossless nonuniform transmission lines (NTL's) and lumped reactance two-ports (LRT's) is presented. Based on this transformation a new synthesis method for NTL's and NTL-LRT cascades is established, by means of which microwave filters and matching sections can be constructed on the basis of a rational function of the complex frequency. Thus, given specifications can practically be met arbitrarily well. In contrast to others the new method is at the same time exact and easy to handle. A synthesis example is given at the end.

Description / Table of Contents: Contents This work presents a semi-analytical method for calculating the eddy currents due to a three-dimensional incident field which is caused by a line current situated in the cavity of a finitely long circular cylindrical conducting and permeable shell. The components of the incident field are expanded into Fourier series in the azimuthal and the axial directions. The Fourier coefficients of the transversal field components are expressed in terms of the Fourier coefficients of the longitudinal field components, because only the longitudinal field components allow using the method of separation of variables for solving the occurring Helmholtz equations.

Notes: Abstract In this paper the problem of realizing 2-D denominator-separable digital filter transfer functions is considered for processing of real sequences. The approach is based on expressing the given 2-D transfer function as a sum of two reduced-order rational transfer functions with complex coefficients. New structures are obtained for equivalent reduced-order, complex-coefficient, 2-D transfer functions. All the realizations are basically parallelform structures with minimum-norm, low round-off noise and freedom from overflow limit cycles. A comparison of the different structures is also made.

Notes: Abstract It is established that denominator-separable transfer functions which characterize an important subclass of 2-D filters can be expressed as a linear combination of first-order (1-D or 2-D separable) all-pass transfer functions with real or complex coefficients. This type of expansion is referred to as all-pass expansion of the corresponding transfer function. Based on this all-pass expansion, we derive some efficient structures for the realization of 2-D denominator-separable filters using all-pass sections.
