Notes: Abstract 69m,71mZn have been implanted with an isotope separator on-line into a cold iron host matrix. Nuclear magnetic resonance of the low-temperature oriented isotopes has been observed. The resonance frequencies for zero external magnetic field are vL(69mZnFe@#@) =36.814(35) MHz andv L (71mZnFe)=33.47(19) MHz. From these the magnetic moments of the 9/2+ iosmeric states have been derived as μ(69mZn)=(−)1.138(18) n.m. andμ(71mZn)=(−)1.035(18) n.m. The experimentally known magnetic moments of (vg 9/2)-levels in odd zinc isotopes are compared to theoretical estimates.

Notes: Abstract Nuclear magnetic resonance of82Br oriented at low temperature in iron has been observed with a sample prepared by ion implantation atT〈0.2 K. The asymmetric resonance signal can be decomposed in a broad background signal and a narrow line of FWHM=1.8 (4) MHz which can be attributed to82Br in undisturbed substitutional sites of Fe. From the center frequency of this narrow line ν (B ext=0)=201.86(13) MHz we derive the magnetic hyperfine field asB hf(BrFe)=81.38(6) T. This value is considerably larger than the result of theoretical calculations.

Notes: Summary To investigate the release of serotonin from intestinal enterochromaffin cells, we used an in vitro technique which allows studies excluding overlapping influences from outside the gut. The entire small intestine of rats fed a standard or tryptophan-enriched (3% of total) diet was totally isolated by ligatures with the exception of the superior mesentric artery and portal vein that supply and drain the intestine. Simultaneously to the vascular perfusion (Krebs-Ringer bicarbonate buffer, 0,4% human albumin, 5 mM glucose, 0.6 mM glutamine) the gut lumen was infused (buffer or 0.1 N HCL). Acidification of the gut lumen resulted in an increment of venously released tryptophan and serotonin. After feeding tryptophan-enriched food the release of tryptophan was increased. However, the total amount of released serotonin after tryptophan diet did not differ as compared to that after standard diet. Addition of a monoamino-oxidase inhibitor (pargyline) to the arterial perfusate enhanced the released amount of serotonin 3-fold in the portal venous effluent (at a concentration of 1 mM but not 0.1 mM). Recovery studies done by arterial infusions of serotonin (1 µM, 10µM) and evaluation of the amounts venously released revealed a high loss of infused serotonin (40%–70%). Our data suggest gut-born serotonin to more likely play a paracrine role than a role as a classical hormone.

Notes: Abstract Nuclear magnetic resonance of175Hf oriented at low temperature in iron has been observed with a sample prepared by ion implantation. The centre frequency of the broad resonance line isv L (B ext = 0)=138.53(36)MHz. Possible origins of the large inhomogeneous line width of FWHM=11.0(1.1) MHz are discussed. A comparison with model calculations for combined magnetic and electric hyperfine interaction indicates that the centre frequency may be interpreted as the magnetic interaction frequency for175Hf in unperturbed substitutional sites of the host iron. With theg-factor of175Hf from literature the magnetic hyperfine field of Hf in Fe is derived asB hf=−64.9(9.3) T fitting well into systematics.

Notes: Abstract NMR/ON has been observed for206BiNi with samples prepared by implantation at T〈0.2 K and at room temperature. The integrated destruction of anisotropy for the sample implanted at 290 K is only about half of that for the on-line implanted sample but the resonance line is less broad and has a narrow component with centre frequency νL= 223.62(10) MHz for zero external field. With the known g-factor of206Bi we derive from this frequency the hyperfine field of BiNi as Bhf=38.3(4) T.

Notes: Abstract Nuclear magnetic resonance of oriented177Lu in iron has been found with a sample prepared by on-line implantation of177Lu in iron at T〈0.2 K. The broad resonance, FWHM=20.5 (1.3) MHz, has a centre frequency of νL=355.06 (51) MHz at zero external field. With the g-factor of177Lu g=0.637 (3) from literature the magnetic hyperfine field of Lu in Fe is derived as Bhf=−73.12(36) T. Static nuclear orientation data are not compatible with a two site model where the nuclei which are oriented experience the hyperfine interaction found in NMR/ON. A fraction with a lower hyperfine field is necessary to explain the data.

Notes: Abstract Low temperature nuclear orientation experiments have been performed with122,124Sb in Sb and Zn single crystals. The ratio of the quadrupole moments of124Sb and122Sb is derived from the data asQ 124/Q 122= +2.17 (11). The sign of the effective electric field gradient at the nuclear site of Sb was found to be negative for host Sb and positive for host Zn.
