Conclusions 1. The structural, magnetic, and adsorption properties of the solid solutions CoO-MgO and NiO-MgO are determined by the cluster nature of these systems. 2. The change in the elastic properties of these systems over the temperature interval from −185 to +600°C is accompanied by changes in the value of the lattice constant. 3. The abrupt change in the lattice constant (the break in the straight line a=f(T)) as a result of the deformation of the cluster has virtually no effect on the value of the magnetic moment of the CoO-MgO system due to the weak exchange interaction among the cobalt ions in the cluster. 4. For the NiO-MgO system, the change in the elastic properties of the lattice (the break in the straight linea=f(T) gives rise to a change in the value of the magnetic moment due to the strong exchange interaction among the nickel ions in the clusters.
