Notes: Abstract We study the binding and deconfinement of heavy quarks in a thermal environment, using a non-relativistic confinement potential model with color screening. As a result, we obtain the dependence of the dissociation energies, the binding radii and the masses of heavy quark resonances (charmonium and bottonium states) on the color screening lengthr D of the medium, and we determine for the different resonances those values ofr D below which no more binding is possible. Finally, we consider the implication of our results on resonance suppression as signal for deconfinement.

Notes: Abstract We analyze the status of numerical simulation of QCD at finite temperature. Emphasis is put on quantitative predictions emerging from lattice calculations that may be tested in heavy ion experiments. Recent results on the chiral phase transition, thermodynamics of the quark gluon plasma phase and various screening lengths are discussed.

Notes: Abstract The suppression ofJ/ψ resonance production recently observed in heavy ion collisions contains some information also on the suppression of χ states which are known to be the source of a sizeable fraction of the observedJ/ψ. We analyze recent experimental data within a model that assumes quarkgluon plasma formation in a finite volume for a short time. We extract lifetimes for critical isotherms and obtain a value for the ratio of the Debye screening masses for χ andJ/ψ in the plasma consistent with estimates from lattice QCD. We also make some detailed predictions of the ψ′ suppression pattern and speculate about the extrapolation of the present oxygen results to heavier nuclei.
