Notes: Abstract A detailed analysis is given of processes involving the production of heavy vector bosons as sources of events with a single hadronic jet balanced by a large missing energy or possibly a charged largep T lepton and missing energy. In particular, the hadronic channels of the τ lepton produced inW ± decays provide an appreciable rate of monojet events, with energetic narrow jets of low charged multiplicity. Furthermore it is shown that higher order QCD corrections to weak boson production, in particular the Compton like processqg→Zq orqg→Wq are an appreciable source of the types of events mentioned above.

Notes: Abstract We investigate in some detail the possible experimental signatures for heavy lepton production viaW ± decays inp $$\bar p$$ reactions at collider energies. A detailed presentation of the production dynamics, including higher-order Quantum Chromodynamics effects, is given: special emphasis is put on mass and spin effects. The leptonic decay channels of the heavy leptons give distributions which cannot easily be distinguished from τ production. On the other hand, the hadronic decay channels yield a distinctive signature: two hadronic jets in events with a large missing energy (p T miss ∼20 GeV): the invariant mass and relative angular distributions of the jets reflect the mass of the heavy unstable lepton.
