Notes: Summary The presence of free D-amino acids in mouse kidney, liver, brain, heart, lung, thymus and serum has been shown with an enzymic microdetermination method. The D-amino acid levels were higher in the extracts of kidney and liver than in those from other organs.

Notes: Summary One hundred and two consecutive non selected patients with intracranial aneurysms were reviewed. The incidence of ruptured aneurysm was 17.5 per population of 100,000 per year. The patients were divided into two groups, according to a change of policy that reversed the timing of operations from delayed to early surgery. The overall mortality and occurrence rate of neurological deficits due to vasospasm in patients in Hunt and Kosnik grades I through III were found to be lower during the period with a policy of early surgery. Elderly patients over 70 years old constituted 19% of the cases and those in poor condition (grade IV and V) 31%. These figures in this study are high, which may reflect the fact that these are common problems inherent in the treatment of ruptured aneurysms without patient selection at most community hospitals in the forefront of primary medical care.

Notes: Abstract A program system has been developed for calculation of molecular electronic structure using the configuration interaction (CI) method. Emphasis is placed on the inherent genealogical data structure of the files which a program system produces. Based on this genealogy, a language is provided for users which allows easy and consistent manipulation of files in the new system. Users need only specify a file which contains the desired data, using this file manipulation language. If the desired file does not exist, the new system creates it automatically by calling appropriate modules. The new system may be regarded as a data base equipped with computational ability.

Notes: Abstract Time dependent coupled Hartree-Fock (TDCHF) theory is applied to calculate frequency dependent polarizabilities, transition energies, oscillator strengths and effective quantum numbers of several excited states of the open shell ions Al, Si+, P2+, S3+, Cl4+, Ar5+, Cl and Ar+ in the 2P state within and beyond the normal dispersion region. The Roothaan formalism has been adopted to deal with the open shell problem. The excitation energies are extracted from the positions of the poles of an appropriate functional. Analytic representations of the singly excited Rydberg states have been found. The results obtained compare well with spectroscopic and other elaborate theoretical data wherever available. Inner shell excitations have been found for the first time within TDCHF theory.

Notes: Abstract This paper proposes a value iteration method which finds anε-optimal policy of an undiscounted multichain Markov decision process in a finite number of iterations. The undiscounted multichain Markov decision process is reduced to an aggregated Markov decision process, which utilizes maximal gains of undiscounted Markov decision sub-processes and is formulated as an optimal stopping problem. As a preliminary, sufficient conditions are presented under which a policy isε-optimal.
