Notes: Abstract A case of caecal duplication in a 36-h-old neonate is described. The patient presented with vomiting and an abdominal mass and the barium enema finding was initially suggestive of intussusception. At laparotomy a duplication cyst completely obstructing the lumen was found. This was considered to have given the radiological picture simulating intussusception.

Notes: Abstract Systematic measurements of the far infrared reflection spectra of high Tc superconductors LnBa2Cu3Ox for various Ln as shown in the title were performed. Infrared reflection spectra of tetragonal LnBa2Cu3Ox exhibit Reststrahlen vibration near 640, 590, 530, 355 and 250 cm−1, common to these materials, and the spectra of the orthorhombic LnBa2Cu3Ox exhibit the characteristics of free carriers except PrBa2Cu3Ox with weak phonon structures near 617, 570, 317 and 285 cm−1. PrBa2Cu3Ox is not a superconductor, and it has no characteristic broad band due to free carriers for all x in the range of 6 to 7. Lattice dynamical calculation was performed by the use of the shell model and the calculated results express quite well the characteristic features of infrared experiments.

Notes: Abstract Field line-of-sight propagation experiments were made at 80 and 240 GHz on a horizontal path of 810 m. The measured attenuations showed quadratic dependences on atmospheric water vapor density, and absorptions in excess of theoretical predictions were observed at both frequencies, while the measured refractive dispersion between these two frequencies showed a linear dependence on water vapor density and was in good agreement with theoretical prediction. Liebe's model for water vapor attenuation including empirical continuum absorption is confirmed to be effective for 80 and 240 GHz.

Notes: Abstract The attenuation of 245.52 GHz millimeter wave was measured through a near ground horizontal path in order to study the anomalous water vapor absorption at the window region. The result demonstrates that the attenuation coefficient includes the quadratic dependence on the water vapor density. The quadratic component of the water vapor density in the expression of the attenuation was assumed to arises from the contribution of water dimers alone, then the concentration of water dimers was estimated adopting the published theoretical water dimers absorption coefficient. The obtained concentration was 0.062% of monomers in number when the water vapor density is 7.5 g/m3. This concentration is in agreement with the published result obtained by way of another method.

Notes: Abstract The effective emissivity of cavities or interreflecting surfaces is formulated in terms of the effective absorptivity using Kirchhoff s law and the reciprocity of the bidirectional reflectivity distribution function. It is shown that, according to the formulation, the effective emissivity can be evaluated by analyzing absorption processes of radiation. Several types of reference sources are evaluated statistically and analytically: cylindro-cones, lateral holes formed on a sample tube, and opaque samples covered by a hemispherical mirror. The radiative properties of the associated surfaces are characterized by the isotropic specular-diffuse model.
