Hydropyrenes, Alicyclic Model Compounds for GC-MS InvestigationsHydrogenation of asymmetric and symmetric hexahydropyrene gives the five possible aromatic decahydropyrenes via different octahydropyrenes. From these compounds some dodecahydro- and tetradecahydro-pyrenes, the four isomers of perhydropyrene with chair conformations and five new stereoisomers with twist boat six-membered rings are obtained. The configurations of the hydrogenated pyrenes are assigned using chromatographic retention indices and mass spectrometric fragmentation in combination with force field calculations.
