Notes: Abstract The deuteron wave function is calculated integrating from outside the Schredinger equation using as input its asymptotic behaviour. Some potentials are tested and the one pion exchange potential (OPEP) is shown to be the main responsible of the wave function structure up to distances of about 1 fm. The relevance of the short range part of the potential is analyzed and it is shown that a substantial enhancement of the OPEP central part is needed in the deuteron channel.

Notes: Abstract We study the photonuclear reaction in the intermediate region. We evaluate the real part of the forward Compton amplitude through the dispersion relation and analyze its structure. The modification of the electromagnetic polarizability of the nucleon, $$\bar \alpha$$ , in the nuclear medium is calculated. We show that it affects appreciably the behaviour of the Compton amplitude in the intermediate region, consistent with the experimental data. In the same scheme the enhancement of the photonuclear sum rule,K, is interpreted as an exchange contribution to the nucleon Compton amplitude. We find in lead a value ofK=1.6±0.2 and a quenching of about 20% of $$\bar \alpha$$ .

Notes: Abstract We discuss the modifications of the e.m. polarizability and of the charge radius of a nucleon embedded in the nuclear medium. For a free nucleon these structure constants are influenced by the pion cloud. The distortion of this cloud by the nuclear environment produces an appreciable enhancement of the two constants. The implications for the deep inelasticee′ experiments is discussed.
