Notes: Magnetic recording signals have been written, and subjected to erasure by external magnetic fields, on a variety of longitudinally oriented rigid particulate and thin-film disks. In general, plated thin-film disks are easier to erase than particulate disks, and particulate disks are easier to erase than sputtered thin-film disks. Decaying alternating (ac) erase fields induce greater erasure for a given peak field than do single-direction (dc) erase fields. Successive ac erasures, using the same erase field, induce greater erasure than single ac erasures; while successive dc erasures applied in the same direction do not induce greater erasure than a single dc field erasure. Successive dc erasures where the applied field direction is reversed after each erase application induce additional erasure, but are not as effective as the same number of ac erasures. Erase fields in excess of the disk coercivity induce reductions in signal amplitude, which are attributed to a region of irreversible magnetization switching, and to a region of irreversible approach to saturation as the effects of magnetic inhomogeneities are overcome.

Notes: Abstract The endpoint energies ofβ-transitions in 15 neuron-rich nuclei with mass numbers 101≦A≦106 have been measured with a plastic scintillator telescope in coincidence with a large Ge(Li)-detector at the on-line mass separator LOHENGRIN. From theQ β -values obtained in these experiments, nuclear structure effects in this region of the nuclear chart are deduced. Finally, nuclear masses derived from theseQ β -values are compared with the predictions of different theoretical mass calculations.

Notes: Abstract Theβ-decay of neutron-rich fission products with mass numbersA=107, 108 and 109 has been investigated at the mass separator LOHENGRIN of the Institute Laue-Lange-vin (ILL) in Grenoble by measuringβγ-coincidences with a large plastic scintillator telescope and a Ge(I)-detector. Theβ-decay energies of 8 nuclei were obtained from the evaluation of more than 40β-endpoint energies. For the nuclei107 Mo,107Tc,108Tc,109Tc and109Ru, theβ-decay energies were determined for the first time; the experimental error in the decay energy of three daughter nuclei was considerably reduced. In addition, the two-neutron separation energies and the nuclear mass excesses were calculated from these experimentalQ β-values and compared with different mass predictions.
