Notes:
Abstract An analytical study is made of the buoyancy effects on initial flow around an impulsively started isothermal circular cylinder. The method of matched asymptotic expansions is used to obtain asymptotic solutions for small time. The Reynolds number is assumed to be finite (but large) and the Prandtl number to be unity. The solutions for the velocity and temperature are obtained to the third order. Based on these solutions, buoyancy effects on flow and heat transfer are investigated in detail.
