Notes:
Abstract Thermal characteristics in the finned-wall cylinder have been studied under a two cycle engine operation. The analysis is developed by a finite element conduction model together with phenomenological simulation of the engine. Particularly, the effect of squish motion in chamber on the thermal characteristics in the finned-wall cylinder is presented. The model is also calibration with experimental data. The results showed that the fin temperatures increased with increasing squish ratio due to much more heat loss, and also with increasing engine speed. The predictions are reasonable, providing confidence in the use of the model.
