Notes: Summary Ointments containing griseofulvin and proquazone, respectively, were made up of monoglycerides of medium chain length and an aprotic solvent, glycerinformal. The ointments were applied topically on the back of bile cannulated rats. The total amount absorbed percutaneously and the permeability constants of both drugs were considerably higher for the ointments than for simple solutions of the drugs without monoglycerides. Distribution of the labeled drugs in rat skin has been demonstrated by microautoradiography. Concentrations of the drugs in the different layers of human skin together with the medium flow rates have been determined 16h after administration of the ointments onto isolated human skin. Monoglycerides of medium chain length enhance significantly the permeability of the stratum corneum for solutes.

Notes: Summary A working group on Evaluation of Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene Services (OHS) met in Stockholm in April 1980. The conference was organised by the Regional WHO-Office in cooperation with the government of Sweden. The participants of this meeting, in spite of the severe differences in the health systems of their countries, came to some conclusions for the definition of the OHS-goals and about the needed proceedings for evaluation of OHS on national bases. Recommendations for member countries of WHO in Europe for use in a coming plenary session of this board were also worked out.

Notes: Abstract In view of the lack of information concerning the commercial availability in Europe of biopreparations (based on microorganisms including viruses) as well as of beneficial metazoa for biological control of pest organisms, an inquiry was started for the following countries: France, Great Britain, Italy, Austria, Rumania, Yugoslavia, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Finland and Germany Fed. Rep. Results are presented as a momentary picture of the situation in early 1984. A plead is made for the acceptance of an European protocol for registration of biopreparations (which has already been drafted) in order to save money and time. There are great differences between countries in the availability of biotic agents for biological control. Some very promising new developments are briefly reviewed and considered to act in a stimulating way. Thanks are due to those colleagues who helped to obtain the information here presented.

Notes: Abstract The side effect of 20 commercial pesticides (10 insecticides/acaricides, 6 fungicides, 4 herbicides) on 6 different beneficial arthropods was tested by members of the IOBC/WPRS Working Group “Pesticides and Beneficial Arthropods” in 3 countries. The tests were done according to standardized methods based on common rules, which, among others, emphasize the reduction of the beneficial capacity as the relevant parameter for evaluation. The beneficials tested were:Trichogramma cacoeciae Marchal,Pales pavida Meig.,Phygadeuon trichops Thomson,Leptomastix dactylopii (How.),Coccygomimus turionellae (L.) andChrysopa carnea Steph. The insecticidal biopreparation Dipel, the acaricide Torque, the fungicides Nimrod, Cercobin-M, Ortho Difolatan, the herbicides Betanal and Illoxan were harmless to slightly harmful to all the natural enemies tested. These chemicals should be examined further for their possible recommendation for integrated control. Other pesticides gave less favourable results. It is hoped that the results would help other WPRS Working Groups and plant protection advisers in the development of rational control programmes.

Notes: Summary The agonistic and antagonistic effects of the new compound SCH 23390 were tested in functional model systems for the D-1 dopamine receptor and for the D-2 dopamine receptor in vitro. In superfused rat neostriatal slices the increase in the efflux of cyclic AMP was used as a parameter for D-1 receptor stimulation. D-2 receptor stimulation was measured as the decrease in the K+-evoked release of [3H]-acetylcholine. SCH 23390 had no agonistic activity in these two models. SCH 23390 was a potent antagonist of the stimulating effect of dopamine in the D-1 receptor model (apparent pA2=7.28). SCH 23390 also antagonized the effect of the D-2 receptor agonist LY 141865 in the D-2 receptor model (apparent pA2=6.34). This D-2 receptor antagonism proved to be of a competitive nature.

Notes: Abstract Absolute cross sections for inclusive electron scattering on H, D, Be, Al, and Si have been measured in the kinematical region 0.08 (GeV/c)2〈Q 2〈1.0 (GeV/c)2 and 0.3 GeV〈v〈6.5 GeV. The measurements have been performed at incident energies of 3, 5, 6, and 7 GeV and at the fixed scattering angle of 10°. A careful treatment of radiative corrections due to elastic electron nucleus scattering, quasielastic and inelastic scattering on the bound nucleons has been applied to the measured cross sections. The comparison of the nuclear cross sections with the elementary ones leads to a value ofA eff〈A with a rapid onset of this effect at small values of the scaling variablex′.
