Notes: Abstract A new method for testing Dimilin (Diflubenzuron) residues in forest soils by usingMusca domestica larvae feeding on soil samples contaminated, is described. Laboratory studies showed that Dimilin affected the fly larvae above a limit of 0,0125 ppm. Dimilin (75 g active substance/ha) sprayed directly upon the forest soil resulted in 100% larval mortality when controlled immediately after applying. Two months later no residues of Dimilin were found. Immediately after applying Dimilin (75 g/ha) by helicopter againstDiprion pini only 12% ofMusca larvae in the soil samples died. This makes the extensive filtering of Dimilin-spray by tree-tops clear. The researchs show that control measures using Dimilin against phytophagous insect larvae in forests are not combined with a considerable injury to litter-eating insect larvae.

Notes: Summary A systematic analysis of the composition of E s o like rate constants clearly revealed that Taft E s o -values depend upon the size of the substituents. Further evidence in favor of this view is adduced even in a case where OLS led to the conclusion that E s o should be completely independent of the size of the substituents, since biased estimators (PCRA, LRRA) showed that this statement is not correct. Furthermore, it seems that the magnitude of the steric effect represented by E s o is a function of the thickness of the substituent along 2 directions perpendicular on its main axis and is not influenced by its length.

Notes: Abstract A new type of approximations for many-body Green's functions proposed recently is applied to the particle-particle (pp) propagator for anN-particle fermion system. The new approach which is referred to as the algebraic diagrammatic construction (ADC) is based on an exact resummation of the perturbation series for the pp-propagator in terms of a simple algebraic form introducing energy-independent effective interaction matrix elements and transition amplitudes. These effective quantities are represented by perturbation expansions and can be determined consistently through a given ordern of perturbation theory by comparing the algebraic form with the diagrammatic perturbation series of the pp-propagator through ordern. By this procedure one obtaines a systematic set of approximation schemes (ADC(n)) that represent infinite partial summations for the pp-propagator being complete throughnth order of perturbation theory. The explicit ADC equations forn=1 and 2 are presented and discussed. Comparison is made with the particle-particle random phase approximation (RPA). It is demonstrated that the second-order ADC scheme constitutes an essential step beyond the RPA which is consistent only through first order.

Notes: High resolution 1H NMR is applied to the study of hydrolysis and equilibria in the complex system of γ-[1-methyl-5-bis(β-chloroethyl)amino-2-benzimidazolyl]butyric acid and D2O. Kinetic data for the individual hydrolytic steps are obtained for the first time. The hydrolytic reactions are pseudo first order. The differences in the activation energies of the two hydrolysis steps are accounted for by different intermediates. Furthermore, equilibrium constants for the deuteration of the N mustard group in the individual products are quantitatively estimated. They show an increase of the basicity of N mustard with hydrolysis. The applicability of the 1H NMR method is restricted to a pD range of 0.5-4.
