    Notes: Abstract Problems similar to those considered in [1, 2] are studied, namely, slow flow over a uniformly heated (or cooled) spherical particle and flow past a weakly nonuniformly heated sphere in the absence of external body forces and with allowance for thermal stresses in the gas. The use of an improved method of numerical solution [3] has made it possible to advance into the region of large temperature differences. A new effect is found: allowance for the thermal stresses in the case of flow around a strongly heated sphere leads to the appearance of a suction force instead of a drag. In the case of flow around a nonuniformly heated sphere the influence of thermal stresses is unimportant. The problems are considered for two temperature dependences of the transport coefficients.

    Notes: Abstract A solution is obtained to the problem of the simultaneous influence of blowing (evaporation) and large temperature differences on the flow past a sphere and on the force acting on it with allowance for the Burnett thermal stresses in the momentum equation. It is assumed that the Reynolds numbers calculated using the blowing velocity and the velocity of the oncoming flow, respectively, have the order Rew ∼ 1 and Re∞ ≪ 1. The temperature difference is determined by the boundary conditions, namely, a constant temperature Tw ≠ T∞ on the surface of the sphere (VT/T ∼ 1). The problem is solved by the method of matched asymptotic expansions with respect to the small parameter Re∞. The equations reduce to a system of ordinary differential equations, which are solved numerically by the orthogonal sweep method [1]. It is found that under certain conditions the drag of the sphere can become negative.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Numerische Lösungen für ein Gezeitenmodell des Weltozeans unter Berücksichtigung von Schelfeffekten werden beschrieben. Die Ergebnisse der numerischen Experimente zeigen, daß die räumliche Struktur und die Energetik der globalen halbtägigen Gezeiten höchst empfindlich auf die Wahl der Parametrisierungsmethode der Schelfeffekte und auf deren Parameter reagieren. Dieser Umstand kann als indirekte Bestätigung des Resonanzcharakters der halbtägigen Gezeiten im Weltozean dienen.
    Abstract: Résumé On décrit une solution numérique au problème de la marée dans l'Océan Mondial en tenant compte des effets du plateau. Les résultats des essais numériques montrent que la structure spatiale et le bilan d'énergie de la marée semi-diurne globale sont très sensibles au choix de méthode de paramétrisation des effets du plateau et aux variations des paramètres du plateau. Ce fait peut être considéré comme une preuve indirecte de la résonance de la marée semi-diurne dans l'Océan Mondial.
    Notes: Summary A numerical solution to the problem of tides in the World Ocean taking into account the shelf effects is described. Results of the numerical experiments show that the spatial structure and energetics of global semi-diurnal tides are quite sensitive to the choice of the shelf effect parameterization and to the variations in shelf parameters. This fact can be regarded as indirect evidence of the resonant nature of semi-diurnal tides in the World Ocean.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es werden zwei Methoden der Parametrisierung von Schelfeffekten vorgeschlagen: eine vom lokalen Typ, die andere vom integralen. Die Versuchsergebnisse dieser Typen werden am Beispiel der Gezeitenberechnung nach den Ozeanmodellen von Webb [1976] und von von Trepka [1967] vorgelegt. Es ist gezeigt, daß die hier vorgeschlagenen Parametrisierungsmethoden von Schelfeffekten eine vollkommen ausreichende Genauigkeit bei der Wiedergabe der halbtägigen Gezeiten im freien Ozean bieten, jedoch in einigen Fällen wird die Dissipation der Gezeitenenergie am Schelf unterschätzt. Dieses wird durch den vernachlässigten Einfluß der Randwellen mit einem Längsmaßstab von der Größenordnung der Schelfbreite hervorgerufen.
    Abstract: Résumé On propose deux méthodes de paramétrisation du plateau: l'une de type local, l'autre de type intégral. Cet article décrit les résultats des essais de ces deux méthodes dans un calcul de marées à l'aide des modèles d'océan de Webb [1976] et de von Trepka [1967]. Les méthodes de paramétrisation des effets du plateau proposées ici fournissent une précision de simulation tout à fait suffisante pour la marée semi-diurne océanique, mais, dans certains cas, elles sous-estiment la dissipation d'énergie sur le plateau. Ceci est dû au fait qu'elles négligent l'influence des ondes de bord dont la longueur d'onde est de l'ordre de la largeur du plateau.
    Notes: Summary Two methods of shelf parameterization are proposed: one of the local and the other of the integral type. The paper gives the results of testing these methods using a calculation of tides according to Webb's [1976] and von Trepka's [1967] model oceans as an example. The proposed methods of shelf effect parameterization provide a quite acceptable accuracy of simulation of semi-diurnal tides in the open ocean, but in some cases they underestimate the tidal energy dissipation on the shelf. The latter circumstance is caused by the ignored effect of edge waves with a longitudinal scale of the order of the shelf width.

In der numerischen Lösung sind über 30 energetisch signifikante Eigenschwingungen mit einer Periode von 8 Stunden und mehr enthalten. Insbesondere treten in den zwölfstündigen und vierundzwanzigstündigen Spektralbereichen Perioden von 11,96; 12,50; 12,68; 12,82 und 22,50; 23,87; 25,90 h auf, die in der Nähe der halb- und eintägigen Gezeitenkräfte liegen. Dieser Umstand und auch die qualitative Ähnlichkeit dieser Eigenschwingungen mit den beobachteten Gezeiten können als direkter Beweis dafür dienen, daß die zwölfstündigen und vierundzwanzigstündigen Gezeiten im Weltozean durch Resonanz entstehen.
    Abstract: Résumé Le problème du spectre est formulé en tant que problème initial de valeur aux limites pour des oscillations libres excitées par une perturbation initiale arbitraire. La solution numérique à ce problème montre que le spectre d'oscillations propres de l'Océan mondial dans une gamme de périodes de 8 heures et au-dessus contient plus de 30 modes ayant une signification énergétique. En particulier, dans les bandes du spectre diurnes et semi-diurnes, il y a des modes avec des périodes de 11,96; 12,50; 12,68, 12,82 et 22,50; 23,87; 25,90 h tout à fait proches des périodes d'harmoniques majeures du potentiel générateur de marée. Ce fait, ainsi que la similitude qualitative du type spatial de ces modes et des marées observées, peut être une preuve directe du fait que les marées diurnes et semi-diurnes dans l'Océan mondial naissent par résonance.
    Notes: Summary The spectral problem is formulated as an initial boundary-value problem for free oscillations excited by an arbitrary initial disturbance. Numerical solution to this problem shows that the spectrum of eigenoscillations of the World Ocean in a range of periods from 8 hours and above contains more than 30 energetically significant modes. In particular, in semi-diurnal and diurnal spectral bands, there are modes with periods 11.96; 12.50; 12.68; 12.82 and 22.50; 23.87; 25.90 h quite close to the periods of main harmonics of the tide-generating potential. This fact, together with qualitative similarity of spatial pattern of these modes and observed tides, can be a direct proof of the resonance origin of semi-diurnal and diurnal tides in the World Ocean.

    Notes: The influence of water on the polymerization of thiirane and 2-methylthiirane with CdCO3 was studied. The polymerization process takes place only when a large interface monomer-water is formed. This is achieved by the presence of an amount of water in the reaction mixture which is comparable with that of the monomer. The polarity of the solvent does not influence the rate of formation of poly(2-methylthiirane). The polymerization is carried out in the mass of monomer or in the presence of an alcohol and a solvent not miscible with water.
