Abstract Old and mature adult rats were injected IV with diazepam 30 s prior to the initial session in a step-through task. Fifteen hours after the initial session diazepam produced an age-dependent impairment of the step-through task. It is concluded that diazepam probably decreased the passive-avoidance responding of the animals by causing an agedependent impairment of learning or memory.
