Notes: Summary Aqueous extracts from spermatophores ofAcanthoscelides obtectus (Coleoptera, Bruchidae) have been chromatographed on Sephadex G 25 and G 15 columns, the active fractions being further purified by preparative SiO2 TLC. The isolation and properties of 2 biologically active compounds are reported. The paragonial substance A has a favourable action upon oogenesis, is a low molecular weight molecule (500–1000) and gives 1 single amino acid on hydrolysis, corresponding to glycin on TLC. The paragonial substance B is toxic, or an inhibitor of oogenesis at lower concentration, thus showing an antagonistic effect.

Notes: Summary Viscero-somatic reflexes have been studied by recording monosynaptic reflexes following distension of the urinary bladder in intact, decerebrate and spinal animals. It was observed that the viscero-somatic responses following bladder distension are inhibitory in nature and this inhibition was highest in decerebrates and least in spinal animals. The site of viscero-somatic interaction probably lies in the bulbar area (supraspinal) and spinal cord.

Notes: Abstract We propose that the solar neutrino puzzle may be partially due to emission of Goldstone neutrinos resulting from a spontaneous breakdown of supersymmetry. An oscillation of the Goldstone neutrinos and a photon-neutrino coupling also result.

Notes: Abstract Riemannian space-times with self-dual curvature and which admit at least one Killing vector field (stationary) are examined. Such space-times can be classified according to whether a certain scalar fieldψ (which is the difference between the Newtonian and NUT potentials) reduces to a constant or not. In the former category (called here KSD) are the multi-TaubNUT and multi-instanton space-times. Nontrivial examples of the latter category have yet to be discovered. It is proved here that the static self-dual metrics are flat. It is also proved that each stationary metric for which the Newtonian and nut potentials are functionally related admits a Killing vector field relative to which the metric is KSD. It has also been proved that the regularity of theψ field everywhere implies that the metric is KSD. Finally it is proved that for non-KSD space-times every regular compact level surface of theψ field encloses the total NUT charge, which must be proportional to the Euler number of the surface.

Notes: Abstract Within the context of a manifestly covariant massive Abelian gauge field model, it is demonstrated that a mass is genuinely compatible with the existence of a bonafide Goldstone boson. Some arguments have been placed to claim that this Goldstone boson may occupy a physical sector of the Hilbert space and as a consequence, at the zero momentum limit, is shown to connect the spectral measure to the bare coupling constant through the Higgs meson mass. It is conjectured that this Goldstone boson can be recognized to invoke a class of Brans-Dicke scalars of the scalar-tensor theory of gravitation.

Notes: The degradation mechanism of styrene-polyester copolymer was studied by various experimental techniques such as TGA, DTA, IR spectroscopy, pyrolysis gas chromatography, and GCMS (gas chromatography-mass spectrometry). It is concluded that, mainly, there are two first-order degradation reactions during thermal degradation in the presence of air. The first step involves the scission of crosslinks/weak links with liberation of free linear chains. The second degradation step involves random scission of the free linear chains into smaller fragments. The various fragments were identified by pyrolysis gas chromatography and by GCMS. In oxygen atmosphere, the polymer was found to obey first-order kinetics with a single rate constant. Apparently, due to presence of oxygen species at the degrading surface, the two rate constants obtained during thermal degradation reaction are altered in such a fashion as to give a single rate constant.
