Abstract Elastic scattering of20Ne on24Mg was studied at an incident20Ne energy of 40 MeV. Scattered20Ne and24Mg nuclei were observed in coincidence with a standard surface barrier and a position sensitive detector. The measured angular distribution shows periodic oscillations which are identified with the24Mg(20Ne,24Mg)20Ne reaction. Taking interference between elastic scattering and transfer into account, anα-spectroscopic factor ofS=0.08±0.02 was deduced from the amplitude of the oscillations.
