Notes: Diffuse X-ray scattering in Li3N has been investigated in the range 293 to 880 K with monochromatic Mo Kα radiation. Crystal and film were fixed during the exposure. Diffuse intensity in the form of rods and discs was found. It increased with increasing temperature but without change of its features. The diffuse intensity distribution was calculated for various temperatures on the basis of an anisotropic shell model. Good agreement with the experimental results was achieved. The anharmonic effects detected in the difference electron density were studied taking into account split positions for the Li ions. This simulation leads to only minor changes in the calculated intensity distribution which indicates that the diffuse intensity of Li3N is mainly caused by harmonic lattice vibrations.

Notes: Abstract It is known that the deformations of the electronic charge density induced by lattice displacements play an important role in lattice dynamics. The multipole expansion of these deformations around the positions of both the cation and the anion leads to a rather general type of deformable shell model. This cluster deformation model can be applied not only to ionic crystals but also to a large variety of other materials like mixed-valence compounds. Taking TiN as an example, it is shown that the model is able to describe the very pronounced phonon anomalies in superconducting transitionmetal compounds and to reproduce the measured phonon dispersion curves within the experimental errors.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung In den Jahren 1973–78 wurden in der Chirurgischen Klinik I der Städtischen Kliniken Darmstadt ca. 10600 allgemeinchirurgische Operationen durchgeführt, dabei traten postoperativ 1135 Wundheilungsstörungen (WHS) auf.
Notes: Summary There were 1135 cases of grade I–III impairment of wound healing (bacterial and abacterial) among 10,727 general surgical operations performed over the period 1973–1978. The incidence of impaired wound healing was significantly elevated in patients over 60, those with carcinoma or diabetes mellitus, and those subjected to operations lasting longer than 2 h (duration of surgery depends on the basic pathologic condition). Advanced age and the presence of a malignant tumor have an additive adverse effect on wound healing. There may be a temporal relationship between impaired wound healing and a stay in hospital, but the impairment is generally not attributable to the surgical intervention itself.
