Glomus cells showed characteristics of modified smooth-muscle cells such as intracytoplasmic myofibrils, pinocytotic vesicles, smooth-muscle dense and attachment bodies, which were surrounded by basal lamina, additionally, an abortive solitary cilium was found in a glomus cell.

    Notizen: Abstract Electron microscope images of parallel arrays of Ramie cellulose protofibrils, obtained at various levels of defocus, are discussed in terms of phase contrast. The optical diffraction pattern of appropriately defocused images shows discrete maxima in the resolution range of 2–5 nm. The pattern is dominated by strong equatorial reflections arising from the lateral spacing of the protofibrils which is about 5 nm. From the observed reciprocal lattice net, it is concluded that the protofibrils are characterized by some form of axial texture that repeats with a periodicity of about 6 nm. The lattice reflections in the optical diffraction pattern are shown to be essentially invariant over a wide range of defocusing conditions. From this it is inferred that the pattern arises from real object order. It is emphasized that the optical diffraction pattern derives from gross structural features related to the morphology of the protofibrils and not from their internal structure.

    Notizen: Abstract The open resonator method for dielectric measurements is developed in the submillimeter-wave region. This method, different from usual laser methods is based on the sweeping of resonator length. The conventional theory developed in the millimeter-wave region is improved so as to make measurements possible with resonable precision even in this frequency region and the design criterion of an optimum resonator at around 890 GHz (λ0=337μm) is presented. Finally, the measurements are performed for several kinds of low loss material and it is confirmed that the present method becomes a useful one in the submillimeter-wave region.

    Notizen: Summary Amorphous and anatase-type hydrous titanium dioxides showed typical amphoteric ion-exchange properties. The ion-exchange selectivity for bivalent transition metal ions was studied as a function of both pH and metal ion concentration in ammonium nitrate media. The selectivity series was Co〈Ni〈Mn〈Zn〈Cd〈Cu for the amorphous and Ni〈Co〈Mn〈Zn〈Cd〈Cu for the anatase-type material. The separation factor on the anatase-type material is larger than on the amorphous material. Effective group separation of Co−Ni and Zn−Cd−Cu could be achieved on an ion-exchange column containing the anatase-type hydrous titanium dioxide.
