Notes: An air-core superconducting solenoid, with a diameter of 0.2 m and a length of 0.4 m, has been configured for use as a heavy-ion reaction-product spectrometer (E/A≤5 MeV/u) near θ=0 °. The spectrometer has a large solid angle (10–35 msr) and properties suitable for time-of-flight measurements with flight paths (approximately-greater-than) 2 m. The performance of the spectrometer was established using α-particle sources and nuclear-reaction products from heavy-ion collisions. The characteristics of air-core magnets are compared to those of steel-yoke magnets. The simplicity and ease of operation of the air-core magnet, without significant problems from the (axial) fringe fields, suggests that larger air-core magnets with dΩ≥20 msr and capable of focusing ions with E/A≥30 MeV/u are feasible. Other applications of solenoids and combinations of solenoids with radial electric-field lenses (ELCO lenses) are also discussed, including designs which focus more than one charge state simultaneously.

Notes: Abstract (16O,14C) reactions on target nuclei with open proton shells, which are members of protonpairing rotational bands have been studied. For all target nuclei strong transitions to the ground states are observed. The reduced groundstate transition strength's (after removal ofQ-value dependence) are almost equal for all four target nuclei. Additional data on (16O,15N), (16O,13C) and (16O,12C) reactions are used to discuss the enhancement in the two proton transfer.

Description / Table of Contents: Preparation and Characterization of Cyclohexasilane Si6H12A preparation route is described in detail for the first synthesis of Si6H12, starting from the full phenylated Si6-cycle. With the aid of AlCl3/HCl all phenyl groups are splitted off and the yielded Si6Cl12 is hydrogenated with LiAlH4. Si6H12 is characterized by means of different kinds of spectras and their properties.

Description / Table of Contents: Preparation and Characterization of a New Cyclic Silicon Chloride Si4Cl8Starting from octaphenylcyclotetrasilane, a cleavage of all the phenyl-silicon bonds yields the cyclic Si4Cl8. The properties and the structure of this strainght ring system were investigated and discussed.
