Conclusions 1. By varying the length of the slots as well as their number and their distance from the center, slotted membranes with a wide range of breaking pressures and a specified working diameter may be prepared from one particular material. 2. In order to ensure the greatest possible open cross section (the complete opening of the membrane), and also in order to reduce the number of variable parameters, it is desirable to make the membranes with slots reaching out to the outer contour. 3. Since the stability of the breaking pressure of the membranes and the rate of approach of the P0=f(a) relationship to a straight line both increase with increasing number of slots, membranes with less than four slots should not be employed.
