Notes: Abstract Due to transport phenomena in the interaction region, the dynamical variables in deep inelastic collision do not have sharp values at the end of the interaction. In the present model, they are considered as random variables with Gaussian probabilities centered on the classical results, while the Coulomb dynamics outside the interaction domain is treated exactly. Very simple formulas are obtained for multiple-differential cross-sections. Numerical results applied to the “quasi-fission” products of the reaction84Kr(525 MeV)+209Bi agree fairly well with experimental data.

Notes: Abstract The effective barrier at low energies is approximated by a Coulomb and parabolic barriers. A simple closed formula is obtained for the total reaction cross section which is the natural extension of Wong's results into the low energy domain. Theoretical predictions of averaged energy behaviour agree fairly well with various experimental results. The relationℏω 0≧π(2kh 2Z1Z2 e 2/μ)1/2 R 0 −3/2 between the curvature and the extremum point of the nucleus-nucleus potential is suggested, based on low energy fusion experiments. By assuming equality sign, it is possible to extract the parameters of the barrier directly from experiment. Incidentally it is found thatħω 0 remains persistently arround 4.5 MeV for all the reactions which have been investigated.

Notes: Abstract It is shown that the surface transparency of the nuclear optical potential is responsible for the rise of the elastic cross section at large angles. We suggest the interpretation that by decreasing the radius of the imaginary potential, the formation of surface waves is supported. Numerical results applied to the elastic scattering ofα-particles on40Ca are compared fairly well with experiment over a large range of c.m. angles.

Notes: Abstract The reflection of spherical waves at a complex potential barrier is discussed in the semiclassical approximation. We study the complex WKB method and the Uniform Approximation in the special case of weakly absorptive barriers, typical of surface transparent optical potentials used in heavy-ion reactions. It is found that the complex WKB results lead to a very accuratecross- section despite their inaccuracy in the most importantphase shifts. Thereby, the amazing stamina of the WKB has been confirmed once more. One of us (Y.A.) spent the summer of 1976 at the Max-Planck Institute at Heidelberg where the present work has been done. He would like to thank J. Hüfner and H. Weidenmüller for the hospitality extended to him.

Notes: Abstract The effective barrier at low energies is approximated by a Coulomb and parabolic parts. A closed formula is obtained for the total reaction cross-section at sub-Coulomb energies which agree fairly well with various experimental results. The extrapolation of the results to zero energy leads to a new relation between nucleus-nucleus interaction parameters.
