Notes: Abstract The thermal neutron induced charged particle spectroscopy on58, 59, 61Ni (target nuclei) was done at the 87 m thermal neutron curved guide of the Grenoble high flux reactor. In the59Nu(n, α)56Fe reaction two lines showed up corresponding toα-particle transitions to the ground and first excited states in56Fe with σα0=13.1±1.1 b and σα1 =0.188±0.01 b. A value of σγα≦13 mb was obtained for the two-step59Ni(n, γα)56Fe reaction. The technique to unfold theγα-spectrum and to get information on the primary low energyγ-rays is given and the present and our previous data on the143Nd(n, γα)140Ce reaction are analysed. For the59Ni(n, p)59Co reaction p0=1.34±0.18b,σ p1〈0.30 b were determined. The cross-sections for the58Ni(n,α)55Fe and61Ni(n,α)58Fe reactions were σα0≦30 Μb and σα0≦30 Μb respectively; these andσ p1upper limit value are about 20–1500 times lower than the existing data. The other results are compared with the existing data and the differences are explained. The experimental data are compared with the values obtained from the statistical model.

Notes: Abstract Thermal neutron induced charged particle reactions in a radioactive target of37Ar have been studied. Upper limits of the cross-sections for the (n, α) reaction in radioactive targets of109Cd,125, 127Xe, and132Cs have been obtained. The isotopically pure targets were produced at the ISOLDE facility at CERN and irradiated with thermal neutrons at the high flux reactor of the Institute Laue-Langevin in Grenoble. Charged particles from (n, p) and (n, α) reactions in37Ar were observed with cross-sections of 69±14b and 1970 ±330b, respectively. TheQ-values for these reactions were determined to be 1600 ±12 keV and 4630±7 keV, in agreement with existing mass data. The branching ratio Γα/Γp of the37Ar capturing state was found to be 28.5±2.7. An upper limit of the cross-section for the (n, γα) reaction in37Ar was obtained.

Notes: Abstract Then th,α)-reaction spectroscopical data are reported on95Mo,123Te and145Nd (target nuclei). The95Mo(n, α)92Zr and123Te(n, α)120Sn reactions showed up two lines each corresponding to the ground state and the 1st excited state with a total cross section of 32 ub and 52 μb respectively. In the case of145Nd(n, α)142Ce, a transition only to the 1st excited state of142Ce is present. It is shown that in the case of95Mo,145Nd and probably123Te, most of the cross-section comes respectively from the 2+ possibly 4−, and 0 bound levels whose widths are determined to beΓ α=0.5 × 10−6 eV,Γ α=1.6×10−8 eV andΓ α=1.6 × 10−6 eV. The present results on these three nuclei, when combined with the existing data, are consistent with the calculated statistical model values.

Notes: Abstract The (n th,α) reaction on180Hf,181Ta and209Bi was studied at the thermal neutron guide of the Grenoble high flux reactor. Upper limits ofσ α ≦13μb, ≦μb and ≦0.3μb, respectively, were obtained for the a branches to the ground states in contrast to the values of ≈100μb to ≈500 mb reported in the literature. Possible reasons for these discrepancies are discussed. Furthermore, the present upper limits of the cross sections are compared with the values calculated from the statistical model.
