Notes: Abstract A relation between the magnetic susceptibilityχ(k, ω) of an interacting 1-D Fermi system and the dielectric functionε(q) of a 2-D Coulomb gas is established. By applying a cluster-expansion technique and by using known results for the pair-correlation function of the Coulomb gas we obtain a number of expressions forε(q) which apply in different regions of theq-plane and in different temperature intervals. These results supplement the existing picture of the transition from non-metallic to metallic behaviour occurring in the 2-D Coulomb gas as the temperature increases. The relation betweenε(q) andχ(k, ω) is then used to derive explicit expressions forχ(k, ω) from these results forε(q). The change in the dielectric response of the 2-D Coulomb gas is reflected by a change in the magnetic response of the 1-D Fermi system: as a function of the spin non-flip coupling constantγ ∥ the susceptibility of the Fermi system changes from normal paramagnetic behaviour to non-magnetic behaviour characteristic of a bound singlet-spin ground state, asγ ∥ decreases. Our result for the gap in the spin excitation spectrum of the Fermi system is in agreement with the results of other authors.

Notes: Abstract The NMR signals of77Se or125Te have been measured in II–VI and IV–VI-compounds ZnSe, CdSe, HgSe, PbSe and ZnTe, CdTe, HgTe, PbTe relative to aqueous solutions of Na2SeO3 or K2TeO3. The chemical shifts of about −600 ppm for77Se and of about −2700 ppm for125Te have been compared with theoretical calculations. For77Se in hexagonal CdSe an anisotropic chemical shift has been observed and for125Te in CdTe and PbTe linesplittings have been found. The linewidths of the77Se and125Te NMR signals increase with the atomic number of the counterions.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung 1.
Notes: Summary 1. The variability of electrographic data used up to now is too large to discriminate easily between normal and abnormal. 2. This variability is partly caused by errors in the measuring process and its consequences. A special difficulty is found in determining the beginning and the end of QRS, so that instantaneous vector magnitudes related to the starting or ending moment of QRS will have a high variance and therefore a low comparability. Displacements of the heart will play an important role as a source of errors. 3. It therefore seems to be more appropriate to describe structure and changes in time of the vector loop. To this end 3 new functions v, w and u are described, all three invariant towards positional changes of the heart in space. The term v means a time-dependent function describing the first derivative of the length of the instantaneous resulting vector of all electrical sources. The term w indicates the projection of the first derivative of the instantaneous vector into a plane orthogonal to the resulting vector. Therefore, v is dependent on the change of all resulting electrical forces, whereas w is the velocity of the peak of the resulting vector on its way along the vector loop. The interpretation of u is complicated; u is a measure of how much the vector leaves a plane, in which it normally more or less remains; u is therefore a measure for the edgeside view of the vector loop. 4. These data are combined with the well-known vectorial data to form a system of vectorial description. 5. The interpretability of these data in physiological terms is exemplified. The description presented here allows to go back to cardiac processes in the proper sense and to largely eliminate external influences like those of the thoracic shape on the ecg and vcg. 6. This way of describing an ecg is specially adapted to the discrimination of normal and abnormal in preventive tests.

Notes: Summary In storing electronically digital data of signals, too many items are used. Especially the great number of data produced in the analogue-digital-conversion of the ECG leads to serious problems in long distance transmission and storage. It is proposed to describe such ECG signals through polynominal fragments, to which such a position across the noise-level distorted data is given that at the same time the data are levelled in a flexible manner. Based on these calculated reduced data, shape recognition problems can be solved more easily. As an example, a suggestion is given to construct the isoelectric segment of an ECG.

Description / Table of Contents: The short chain branching in low density polyethylene obtained under various conditions were determined by γ-irradiation followed by gaschromatography of the gaseous scission products. The pressure and temperature of polymerization were found to affect the kind and number of branchings. The branching structure and reaction parameters are related and discussed on a kinetic concept.
