    Notes: Abstract It is pointed out that a routine application of existing codes to the calculation of Strutinsky-type shell corrections may lead to erroneous results for systems with high mass asymmetries. The reasons for these errors are pointed out and a modification of the shell correction method is proposed that avoids these difficulties.

    Notes: Abstract The shell correction method for rotating nuclei was generalized to include pairing correlations. This extends the applicability of the cranked Strutinsky-type calculations to the low-spin region. As an illustrative example the yrast-line of24Mg is studied.

    Notes: Abstract The real part of the optical potential is calculated in a microscopic model for the reactions4He-4He,16O-16O and40Ca-40Ca at several scattering energies. The two scattering partners are represented by ground state wave functions of an oscillator shell model localized at a given separation distance. The relative motion of the nuclei is approximated by a plane wave. For the nucleon-nucleon interaction we use the Skyrme force. The dependence of the optical potential on the scattering energy is investigated, both in the sudden and in the adiabatic approximation.

    Notes: Abstract The cranked anisotropic harmonic oscillator has been diagonalized in coordinate space. Recurrence relations for the wavefunctions and their derivatives are derived in a form suitable for their numerical evaluation. Symmetries of the wavefunctions under coordinate inversions are given.
