Notes: Abstract For the investigation of vibrational states in odd A nuclei we have studied the level structure of239U by the238U (n thermal,γ) reaction. Various complementary measurement techniques as curved-crystal-, anti-Compton-,γ-γ coincidence- and conversion electron spectroscopy have been applied. The resulting data have been used to establish the deexcitation scheme of239U up to ∼1.3 MeV and to make spin assignments. Most of the levels are interpreted in terms of the Nilsson model. The data also indicate the presence of the Nilsson states ¦501↺¦ and ¦750¦. Three members of theΒ-vibrational band built on the ¦631↺¦ state and one member of theΒ-vibration built on the ¦622↑¦ ground state have been identified through transitions with strongE0 admixtures. The octupole vibrational state built on the ¦631↺¦ band is proposed at 815 keV.

Notes: Abstract The level structures of the doubly odd nuclei80Br and82Br have been studied by means of the thermal neutron capture reactions79Br(n, γ)80Br and81Br(n, γ)82Br. Captureγ-ray spectra from isotopically separated targets have been measured in the approximate energy intervals 30〈E γ(keV)〈1100 with three bent crystal spectrometers installed at the Grenoble high-flux reactor. Measurements with Ge(Li) detectors covered the energy range 0.1〈E(MeV)〈8. Gamma-gamma coincidences have been taken at the research reactor FRJ-2 (Dido) at the Kernforschungsanlage Jülich. The conversion-electron spectra of80Br and82Br from thermal neutron capture have been measured with the beta-spectrometer at the Grenoble high-flux reactor. Using all these data the level schemes of80Br and82Br are proposed up to 1.5 MeV. Spin assignments for the excited states below 800 keV are proposed. The level schemes are discussed in terms of shell model configurations and, as an alternative description, in terms of the Nilsson model.

Notes: Abstract Theγ radiation following thermal neutron capture in104Ru has been investigated through singles, coincidence, and angular correlation measurements in order to solve existing discrepancies and to complete the knowledge about the transitional odd-N nucleus 44 105 Ru61. The resulting level andγ-decay scheme is found to be very similar to that of the odd-Z transitional nucleus 61 149 Pm88. Between the 11/2−, 15/2−, and 19/2− states which are interpreted as members of the decoupled band, built on the unique parity 11/2− single particle state, low spin states of negative parity are found at surprisingly low excitation energies above the 11/2− state. In the frame of the particleplus-rotor model their positions would require a sharp decrease of the rotational parameter with increasing collective angular momentum of the soft core.

Notes: Abstract The first excited 0 +-state of 104 Mo has been observed at 886.1 keV. The ratio E 0+/E2+=4.6indicates that this nucleus lies at the entry of the region of deformed nuclei.

Notes: Abstract Gamma-gamma angular correlation measurements have been performed on the cascades 393-263 keV, 413-263 keV, and 316–469 keV emitted in105Rh after theΒ-decay of105Ru. From the measured angular correlation coefficients the spins of the states at 469 keV, 785 keV, and 806 keV and the multipolarities of the involved gamma-rays are determined.

Notes: Abstract Through the measurement of the absolute intensities of theK α andK β X rays following slow neutron capture in155Gd,176Lu and199Hg and their comparison with the intensities of theK-conversion electron transitions from the same reaction it is shown that theK X rays are caused only by internal conversion.

Notes: Abstract Partial cross sections have been measured for the143Nd(n th,α)140Ce reaction and also for the two-step process143Nd(n th,γα)140Ce. The results of the present work confirm previous data, but due to lower background, better statistics and resolution improved precision has been obtained. The double-humped structure in the observed (n, γ α) spectrum can still be explained through the Porter-Thomas fluctuations of the reduced partialγ andα widths.

Notes: Abstract The transitional nucleus152Eu has been studied using the (n, e), (n, γ), (n res,γ), (n, γγ), (d, p), (d, t) and (p, d) reactions. The experiments have been performed at nine different laboratories. A model independent level scheme was established including 95 levels below 510 keV and nearly 900 transitions by combination of low energy transitions and reaction data. More than 20 additional levels result from gamma rays and/or charged particle reactions. The level scheme is interpreted in terms of the Nilsson model indicating that152Eu is a deformed nucleus. Seven rotational bands and Nilsson configurations are established. An additional 27 rotational bands are tentatively or speculatively assugned. Gallagher-Moszkowski splittings are discussed. The neutron binding energy was determined as 6305.2±0.5 keV. The energy of the 9.3 h 0− isomer is 45.599 keV. The lifetimes of four levels were measured. Notes: Abstract An upper limit of 1.5×10−4 was measured for the branching ratio of the doublephoton to single-photon transition from the 2.2 MeV np capture state to the ground state of the deuteron. This result was obtained in a coincidence experiment with two Ge(Li) detectors. Based on the total cross section of 334.2 mb for the thermal neutron capture in hydrogen, the upper limit corresponds to a cross section of 49 μb for the two-photon emission in the energy region 46 keV〈E γ〈2177 keV.
