By acylation of the nucleosides, e.g. uridine, adenosine, cytidine, and guanosine with methacrylic acid chloride we prepared mono- and di- unsaturated nucleoside derivatives. By radical copolymerization of these mono- and bifunctional methacrylic acid esters, crosslinked nucleoside polymers resulted which could be used in water as well as in DMSO/CHCl3.With these U, A, C, and G-resins it was possible to separate several nucleoside mixtures quantitatively.From the results of these separations, we could prove that in water the nucleosides are paired by way of base stacking not in the sense of WATSON and CRICK. Whereas in DMSO/CHCl3, base pairing is statuated by H-bonds.

Durch Acylierung der Nucleoside Uridin, Adenosin, Cytidin und Guanosin mit Methacrylsäurechlorid haben wir Nucleosidderivate mit einer oder zwei Methacryloylgruppen hergestellt und durch radikalische Copolymerisation in vernetzte Nucleosidgele überführt, die sowohl in H2O als auch in DMSO/CHCl3 quellen. An diesen U-, A-, C- und G-Gelen war es möglich, säulenchromatographisch beliebige Nucleosidgemische quantitativ zu trennen. Aus den hierbei erhaltenen Trennergebnissen folgte, daß in Wasser die Nucleoside über den Stapeleffekt nicht im Sinne von WATSON und CRICK, sondern in der Reihenfolge Purin/Purin 〉 Purin/Pyrimidin 〉 Pyrimidin/Pyrimidin gepaart werden. In DMSO/CHCl3 erfolgt die Basenpaarung der Nucleoside vorwiegend über Wasserstoffbrückenbindungen nach WATSON und CRICK.
