    Notes: Summary The present study was made on the constitution of Heinz bodies in the red blood cells in order to elucidate the genesis of the bodies. Heinz bodies which were formed in the red blood cells incubated with o-aminophenol, were separated, and analytically examined for their constitutive substances. The analysis was carried out to identify their staining properties with fluorescence staining, and to determine their constitutive substances using column chromatography. As a result of the experiments done in this study, it was concluded that the major part of Heinz bodies are composed of a substance, being formed by denaturation of hemoglobin, which shows a hemochromogen-like absorption spectrum after the treatment with NaOH and Na2S2O4.

    Notes: Zusammenfassung Aus «Euphorbium», dem luftgetrockneten Latex vonEuphorbia resinifera Berg, wurden 2 neue Ester des tri- und makrozyklischen, polyfunktionellen Diterpens Ingol, 2 neue und ein bereits bekannter Ester des tetrazyklischen polyfunktionellen Diterpens 12-Desoxy-phorbol sowie ein Gemisch von neuen Estern des tetrazyklischen polyfunktionellen Diterpens Ingenol isoliert. Das Gemisch der Ingenolester enthält langkettige, methylverzweigte Fettsäuren. Alle isolierten Ester wurden auf irritierende Wirkung am Mäuseohr und auf cocarcinogene Wirkung an der Rückenhaut der Maus geprüft.

    Notes: Summary A series of exposure experiments with Triethylaluminum were undertaken using animals, and the following results were obtained: 1. Gas Chromatographic analysis of the exposure gas showed that the gas contained various combustion products of TEA in the air and contained an unidentified substance which had a retention time equivalent to a 6-carbon compound. The substance was assumed to be TEA itself. 2. A moderate systemic effect of “TEA” gas on various organs was observed when it contained considerable amounts of the 6-carbon compound. 3. Characteristic changes in the lungs of animals exposed to “TEA” were found by histological examination. The changes in the lungs were a result of moderate irritation. 4. The effects of exposure to the “TEA-toluene” mixture were more severe in the animals than the effects of “TEA”. Those effects would be mainly due to toluene because the same effects could be seen by the exposure to toluene alone. 5. Direct action of “TEA” on the skin was identical to that of a burn. A possible relation between these results and the clinical symptoms found among some of the workers handling TEA was briefly discussed.
