Notes: Abstract The latest observational and theoretical evidence which suggests the existence of a large number of partially ionized globules (PIG's) in the cores of Hii regions is presented. The consequences of this proposition to the structure of the Orion Nebula are then considered. It is suggested that the dense ionized core of M42 is caused by two major ionization fronts eating into a large mass of neutral material which contains many dense neutral globules. The ‘Hourglass’ in M8 is shown to be very similar.

Notes: Abstract Measurements have been made with an electronographic image tube spectrograph of two helium and three hydrogen lines at twenty nine positions in the dense core of the Orion Nebula. Values for the helium abundance derived show that a large amount of the helium is neutral. This must be caused by large optical depth variations in the core near partially ionised globules (PIG's). The total abundance of helium is shown to be in the range $$0.0104〈 N(He)/N(H)〈 0.132$$ .

Notes: [Auszug] Next, consider the period of the onset of instability, when the accretion rate drops below 1022 g s?1. The false photosphere will break up in certain directions according to a time scale given approximately by the free-fall time from a radius, R (=1016 cm) to the star. That is about 1010 s. Thus, ...
