    Notes: Abstract Ionization potentials of benzophenone and six meta- and parasubstituted benzophenones have been measured and correlated withBrown σ +-constants. The ρ-value of this correlation gives evidence that the ionization process of benzophenones is similar to the ionization process of compounds with one benzene ring: removal of an electron from the π-electron system. Appearance potentials of the benzoyl ions and the corresponding six substituted benzoyl ions have been determined and correlated withHammett σ-constants. The deviations of ions with the substituents m-NH2 and p-NH2 from the correlation line are mainly due to the kinetic shift of these ions. For the decomposition of benzophenone ions to benzoyl ions the correlation of metastable-ion intensities withHammett σ-constants shows a similar ρ-value as the correlation of the intensities of the decomposition in the ion source.

    Description / Table of Contents: Clastograms of benzophenone and nine substituted benzophenones have been calculated in the range of 12 to 24 eV, using the simplest equation of the quasi-equilibrium theory. The calculations consider competing and consecutive reactions. The energy distribution function used by Yeo and Williams has been slightly modified with regard to the measured clastogram of benzophenone. Good agreement is obtained between calculated and measured clastograms. The calculations confirm the presumption of preliminary work, that benzoyl and aminobenzoyl ions from aminobenzophenones are formed with considerable excess energy at the threshold.
    Notes: Mit Hilfe der einfachsten Gleichung der Quasi-Gleichgewichts-Theorie wurden die Klastogramme von Benzophenon und neun substituierten Benzophenonen im Bereich von 12 bis 24 eV berechnet. Es wurden Konkurrierende Reaktionen und Folgereaktionen berücksichtigt. Die Energieverteilungsfunktion von Yeo und William wurde auf Grund der Ergebnisse, die für Benzophenon erhalten wurden, modifiziert. Berechnete und gemessene Klastogramme stimmen gut überein. Die Berechnungen bestätigen die aus anderen Arbeiten gewonnene Vermutung, daß Benzoylund Aminobenzoyl-Ionen aus Aminobenzophenonen an der Bildungsschwelle mit einer beträchtlichen Überschußenergie behaftet sind.

Starting from calculated heats of formation of the substituted benzophenones, the following quantities have been evaluated; heats of formation of the molecular ions; heats of formation of fragment ions formed via a one-step pathway and via a two-step pathway; heats of formation and ionisation potentials of radicals; heats of dissociation of benzophenone and substituted benzophenones. The accuracy of the result is discussed.
    Notes: Es wurden die Ionisieerungspotentiate von Benzophenon und substituierten Benzophenonen sowie die Auftrittspotentiale der häufigsten Fragment-Ionen gemessen. Ausgehend von berechneten Werten für die Bildungsenthalpien der substituierten Benzophenone, wurden folgende Grüßen ermittelt: Bildungsenthalpien der Molekül-Ionen; Bildungsenthalpien von Fragment-Ionen, die in einem einstufigen, und solcher, die in einem zweistufigen Zerfallsprozeß gebildet wurden; Bildungsenthalpien und Ionisierungspotentiale von Radikalen; Dissoziationsenergien des Benzophenons und der substituierten Benzophenone. Die Genauigkeit der Ergebnisse wird diskutiert.

    Notes: Abstract In order to reduce the stress concentration around a hole in a plate, new, “analogue” reinforcements instead of reinforcing rings were used in this investigation. In two of these specimens, reinforcements with different volume fractions were arranged to coincide with the stress trajectories for an infinite plate with a hole under uniaxial tension. Two other specimens containing straight rectangular-grid-type reinforcements were made by using a photofabrication method. Specimens were then prepared by sandwiching these reinforcements between two epoxy-resin plates. Plane specimens, i.e., without reinforcement, were also made of the same epoxy resin for comparison. The stress concentrations at the edge of the hole under uniaxial tension were determined by photoelastic techniques. The measured stress-concentration factors were compared with well-known values for an infinite, isotropic, homogeneous plate containing a hole. Results were also compared with published data on [90/0/90/0]s 7-ply laminated composite plates, and on plates strengthened with reinforcing rings. A definite reduction in stress concentration was observed on specimens containing analogue reinforcement.
