Notes:
—Dorsal and ventral roots, dissected from rats anaesthetized with sodium pentobarbitone, accumulated three to four times more GABA than l-glutamate, 1-aspartate or glycine during 30 min incubation at 37°C. GABA was taken up into spinal roots by a structurally specific, sodium-dependent process with an apparent Km of approx. 3 × 10−5m. This uptake process appears to be very similar to that described in rat brain, spinal cord and dorsal root ganglia.
