Notizen: Conclusions 1. The gas permeability of powders of the materials investigated shows a tendency to increase with increase in their mean particle size. 2. The gas permeability of mixed powders of different particle sizes does not obey the rule of additivity. 3. The character of the disintegration of a powder column produced when a certain critical pressure is exceeded depends on the mean particle size of the powder.

Notizen: Conclusions 1. A formula has been derived relating the upper critical velocity of powder rolling to the properties of powders (gas permeability, coefficient of internal friction, apparent density) and the dimensions of the feeding device. 2. The extent to which productivity in powder rolling can be increased by altering the properties of powders (gas permeability, apparent density) and modifying the feeding device (free gravity feeding) is very limited. 3. In order to radically intensify the rolling process, it is necessary to employ forced feeding methods and lower the pressure in the gaseous atmosphere in which the process is being performed.

Notizen: Conclusions 1. It was established that the densification of copper strip can be intensified by raising the sintering temperature to 1060°C. 2. During the deformation of porous copper strip, the ductile-to-brittle transition occurs at small relative reductions, and the sooner the higher the starting strip porosity. 3. The physicomechanical properties of densified and annealed strip from electrolytic and autoclave copper powders are comparable to those of copper strip of the usual ingot origin (σ t of not less than 21 kg/mm2,δ of not less than 30%, andρ of not more than 1.724 μΩ · cm).

Notizen: Conclusions A study was made of the effects of the surface roughness of rolls on the properties (thickness, density, and forward slip) of roll-compacted strip and of the running-in of rolls in contact with the material being rolled. It was established that the surface condition of rolls has a strong influence on the properties of strip. Increasing the height of roll surface irregularities from 2.8 to 7.0μ increases the strip thickness from 0.38 to 0.65 mm in the rolling of a coarse copper powder and from 0.43 to 0.68 mm in the rolling of an iron powder. Further increase in the height of microirregularities produces very little change in strip thickness and density. The study revealed that, during the running-in of the roll surfaces as a result of contact with the material being rolled, the thickness and density of the strip change, and the rolling process thus takes place under non steady-state conditions. The time required for the stabilization of the process depends on the composition of the mixture being rolled and the hardness of the material of the rolls. The findings of laboratory investigations have been confirmed by data yielded by experiments carried out under industrial conditions. As a method of treatment of roll surfaces, the rolling of electrocorundum abrasive cloths of No. 10–20 grain size, to GOST 3647-71 standard, is recommended. As a result of this treatment, rolls acquire a class 5 surface finish.

Notizen: Conclusions 1. Rapid heating and cooling at temperatures in excess of 600°C enable porous strip from stainless steel powders to be sintered without the use of protective packing materials. 2. After short-time sintering in the temperature range 1350–1400°C, the level of mechanical properties of porous strip from Kh18N9 and Kh18N15 stainless steel powders is adequate for the requirements of filtration applications. 3. The quality of interparticle contacts, measured by the magnitude ɛ, in specimens subjected to shorttime sintering in the temperature range 1350–1400°C is slightly inferior to that attained in specimens produced by prolonged sintering.

Notizen: Conclusions 1. Listed in order of decreasing extent to which they affect strip layering, the characteristics of the powders investigated are: particle size, presence of oxides on the particle surfaces, physical condition of the powders, and particle shape. 2. The susceptibility of rolled strip to layering manifests itself more clearly, other things being equal, with increasing roll diameter, and becomes apparent the sooner, the higher the strip porosity.

Notizen: Conclusions 1. The relative density of composites consisting of a ductile matrix and brittle fillers whose yield stress exceeds that of the matrix is inversely proportional to the surface area of unit volume of the inclusion particles. The coefficient of proportionality is a structure-sensitive magnitude and depends on the volume fraction of the filler in the mixture, the shape and strength of its particles, and the isotropy of the mixture. 2. The factor influencing the compressibility of composite materials most is, other things being equal, the strength of the inclusion particles. Rupture of filler particles creates a situation in which further densification of the mixture becomes possible. 3. In the case of fillers whose strength characteristics are lower than those of the matrix, stress concentration may increase up to its critical value, which depends on the volume fraction of the filler and the external stress. Exceeding this critical value is accompanied by local stress relief, which results in strip rupture — spontaneous growth of a large crack.
