Summary The diffusion of four steroids across a cellulose acetate membrane has been examined and from the variation of diffusion rate with temperature the energies of activation have been estimated. The energies of activation are compared with solubility and partition data and it suggested the relative hydrogen bonding ability of the four steroids is of considerable importance in governing the diffusion rate.
