Notes: Abstract In this paper a model theory is demonstrated by which it is possible to determine the load capacity of a wall including an electric arc. This theory bases on exact numerical computations of the temperature distribution inside the wall of a toroidal arc tube. It is shown and explained that the thermal load capacity increases with the radius of curvature at fixed tube radius and decreases with the tube radius at fixed radius of curvature.

Notes: Abstract This paper deals with a wallstabilized, toroidal electric arc at atmospheric pressure. Contrary to cylindrical arcs there appear asymmetrical thermal, electrical and magnetical values. The displacement of the maximum of temperature out of the centre of cross-section to the centre of curvature may be a criterion for this asymmetry. The effects of curvature are realized analytically in this paper by a model theory. Further-more, a theory of conform mapping of the numerical results of a cylindrically-symmetric arc to a torus geometry yields to values, which are in good correspondence with numerical solutions of the energy balance of the toroidal geometry. In addition convection — caused by the asymmetry of the Lorentz forces — are pointed out.

Notes: Abstract A system of nonlinear partial integral-differential equations will be given which satisfies the single fluid model and describes the behaviour of electric arcs. A method to solve these equations simultaneously is outlined. The method is applied to an arc with Koppelmann geometry (radial gas injection into a wall stabilized arc). The behaviour of this arc is discussed on the basis of the numerical results obtained.

Notes: Abstract In this paper the analysis of gas heating phenomena in wallstabilized toroidal electric arcs is derived and the results are applied to a nitrogen arc at a pressure of one atmosphere. These investigations have been performed on the basis of the single-fluid model of plasma physics taking into consideration the thermal properties of the wall material. By using a differential method it is outlined how the equation of energy is solved not only in the arc but also in the wall.
