Abstract Wheat varieties viz. A098, A 206, Sonora 63, Sonora 64, Lerma Rojo, C 591, C 303 and K 65 were sown under high doses of nitrogenous fertilizer (Ammonium sulphate). They were artificially inoculated with the mixture of races viz. 15, 15-C, 17, 21, 24, 34, 42, 42-B; and 117 of black rust. The effect of high doses of nitrogen was recorded and it was concluded that the severity of the disease in susceptible varieties is more where high nitrogen doses were applied rather than in control where nitrogen was nil. The studies were conducted during 1964–65 and 1965–66 in field trials.
