Notes: Summary The relations between the dispersibility and the factors affecting the stability of phthalocyanine blue suspensions in the aqueous medium in the presence of polyoxyethylene nonylphenol ethers were studied: Namely, 1% phthalocyanine blue was irradiated by ultrasonic wave with the addition of polyoxyethylene nonylphenol ethers of varying ethylene oxide addition numbers, and effects of concentration of the surfactants, ethylene oxide addition numbers (or HLB), zeta potential, and heat of wetting were investigated. It was shown that the increase of the value of zeta potential does not necessarily improve the dispersibility of the pigment, but, above some 12 erg/cm2, the amount of heat of wetting is linearly related as a whole to the dispersibility except for C9E7.5, which shows an abnormal frequency distribution curve.

Notes: Abstract In recent years Sobolev's Φ-function of radiative transfer has been discussed in connection with the resolvent of Milne's integral equation such that it plays an important role in the determination of the radiation field in semi-infinite (or finite) atmospheres with internal sources (cf. Sobolev, 1963). In the present paper, the part of Sobolev's Φ-function in plane-parallel and spherical, isotropically scattering, atmospheres with internal source distribution is investigated from analytical and numerical aspects. With the aid of invariant imbedding (cf. Bellmanet al., 1968), we computed Sobolev's Φ-function of Milne's integral equation for the planar case by solving the Cauchy system for the auxiliary function and Chandrasekhar'sX- andY-functions. The corresponding Φ-function for the spherical case is readily obtained from the for the planar case.

Notes: Abstract In recent years approximate solutions for line-transfer problems using a kernel representation have been discussed by several authors (cf. Avrett and Loeser, 1966; Hummer and Rybicki, 1967). In this paper, extending an invariant imbedding method to the line-transfer problem with a kernel approximation as a sum of exponentials, we show how to get an exact solution of Milne's integral equation for the frequency-independent line source function with the aid of the resolvent kernel. A Cauchy system for an auxiliary function and the resolvent is suitable for numerical computation by means of high-speed digital computers.

Notes: Abstract In a manner similar to that given in a preceding paper (cf. Castiet al., 1970), in this paper we show how to get a Cauchy system for the scattering and transmission matrices of the azimuth-independent term of partially polarized light in accordance with Rayleigh scattering in a homogeneous atmosphere bounded by a specular reflector. This set of integro-differential equations for the scattering and transmission matrices is suitable for numerical computation by high-speed digital computer.
