Notes:
Summary Disturbances in male fertility are the most frequent, but less regarded complications after resection or amputation of the rectum. They are caused by intra-operative lesions of the autonome lumbo-sacral nerves. In addition, psychic factors play part in people bearing a colostomy, especially in women. After amputation of the rectum 49 % of the male patients (n = 74) noticed an impotentia coeundi or generandi. A loss of penis-erection was marked by 44 %, while 37 % were unable to ejaculate. These figures show, that the defect commonly is complete. After resection of the rectum, there were 19 % with an impossibility of penis-erection, 7 % without ejaculation. Only in few cases function normalized later on. In incomplete lesions therapy was successfully made by giving an androgen-substitution, in case combined with thymoleptica.
