Notes: Summary The anchoring of small cutaneous nerves was investigated in skin biopsies by electron microscopy. Previous authors demonstrated longitudinal and circular fibrils within the endoneurium, which are supplemented by the following results: The single nerve fibers have a complicated suspension by a polar system of connective tissue fibrils which are arranged in spirals. Cross-sectioned spirals may appear as transverse or longitudinal fibrils in a single tissue section. The described form of anchoring of the nerve fibers causes safe but flexible fixation and thereby effective protection of the tender nerve fibers.
