Notes: The ideal adsorbed solution theory of Myers and Prausnitz (7) provides an accurate and thermodynamically consistent method for predicting multicomponent adsorption equilibria. The major difficulty in the application of this theory lies in the calculation of the spreading pressure curves for the pure adsorbates. The purpose of this article is to show that in many cases of practical interest, the spreading pressure calculations may be greatly simplified or altogether eliminated with little or no loss in the accuracy of the calculations. The problem of adsorption azeotropy is also briefly discussed.
