Summary A report has been presented on the experiences gained when including in the routine antenatal care programme the examination of the antibodies in pregnant women to the ABO-system. In the course of one year, 3804 women attended antenatal care service. With a careful interpretation of the findings —so as not to alarm either the doctor or the family — the vast majority of the cases of hyperbilirubinaemia occurring among the newborns of these women, the cause of which was not found in one of the other bloodgroup systems, were established as OA- or OB-induced neonatal haemolytic disease. The antenatal tests necessary for these investigations are simple to perform, not causing any particular additional consumption of time. After confinement, the corresponding immuno-antibody to the ABO-system was almost exclusively found in the child alone.

Zusammenfassung Es wird über Erfahrungen einer routinemäßigen Einbeziehung von Immun-Antikörper-Untersuchungen im ABO-System bei Schwangeren berichtet. Unter Berücksichtigung einer vorsichtigen den Arzt und die Familie nicht beunruhigenden Interpretierung der Befunde konnte bei 3804 Schwangerenvorsorgeuntersuchungen eines Jahres der größte Teil von Neugeborenen-Hyperbilirubinämien, deren Ursache nicht in einem anderen Blutgruppensystem zu suchen war, als OA- oder OB-bedingter Morbus haemolyticus neonatorum geklärt werden. Die hierfür erforderlichen Vorsorgeuntersuchungen während der Schwangerschaft sind leicht durchführbar und erfordern keinen wesentlichen zusätzlichen Zeitaufwand. Nach der Entbindung konnte der entsprechende Immun-Antikörper im ABO-System fast ausschließlich nur noch bei dem Kind nachgewiesen werden.
