Description / Table of Contents:
Summary After 2 hr of incubation, the conversion rate of oestradiol-17β (i.e. amount of oestradiol-17β incubated minus amount of oestradiol-17β recovered) varied between 12 and 33% in slices of the 7,12-DMBA mammary tumour, and between 67 and 76% in liver tissue slices. The ratio of oestradiol-17β to oestrone was found to be 20 to 30 in tumour slices, and about 1 in liver slices. From these values it may be concluded that in tumour tissue, the stationary concentration of oestradiol-17β is relatively high. No correlation was found between qualitative or quantitative aspects of oestrogen metabolism on the one hand, and the age or weight of the tumours on the other hand. The results obtained demonstrate that the 7,12-DMBA induced mammary tumours may participate in the metabolism of steroids.
Notes:
