Notes:
Summary During infusions of fat emulsions to unanesthetized rats at a rate of 1.65 g · kg−1 · h−1 the elimination constants for glucose are reduced by 43%, for sorbitol by 26%, and for xylitol by 20%. At a rate of 0.33 g · kg−1 · h−1, as suggested for intravenous use of fat emulsions in parenteral nutrition, only the elimination constant for glucose is reduced by 30%. The elimination of sorbitol and xylitol is not impaired. During infusions of D, L-Β-hydroxybutyrate at rates causing average blood levels ofΒ-hydroxybutyrate + acetoacetate in the order of 11,4 mg% the elimination constant for glucose is reduced by 25%, whereas the turnover of sorbitol and xylitol is not influenced.
