    Description / Table of Contents: Summary Also in Germany whole body plethysmography has been recognized to be the most reliable method of determining bronchial airway resistance and thoracic gas volume. A number of artefacts may falsely influence the airway resistance curve and the mouth pressure curve registered by anxy-recorder. The most important errors were described. Easily recognizable deviations are found as well as artefacts which could lead to misinterpretations, so that these should be especially carefully avoided.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Die Ganzkörperplethysmographie hat sich auch in Deutschland als empfindlichste Methode zur Messung des Bronchialwiderstandes und des Thoraxgasvolumens durchgesetzt. Die auf einemxy-Schreiber registrierten Resistance- und Verschlußdruckkurven können durch eine Reihe von Artefakten verfälscht werden. Die wichtigsten Störungen wurden wiedergegeben. Leicht erkennbaren Verunstaltungen stchen solche Artefakte gegenüber, die zu Fehlbeurteilungen führen können und die deshalb besonders sorgfältig vermieden werden müssen.

    Notes: Abstract Although New Caledonia is surrounded by one of the 3 largest coral reef systems of the world, the published generic records indicate abnormally low coral diversity. Exploration of the reefs in the south-eastern part of the island, largely by means of SCUBA, has yielded specimens which increase the known genera and sub-genera by 50%. New Caledonia now ranks sixth among the coral provinces of the world, with at least 53 genera and sub-genera of reef-building corals. Many of the new records were made in a type of coral environment unlike any previously described. Comparison of the New Caledonia fauna with those of Fiji, the Grett Barrier Reef of Australia, and the Ryukyu Islands reaffirms the remarkable homogeneity of the Indo-Pacific coral faunas.

    Description / Table of Contents: Summary Three cases of praemature born infants presenting the typical features of the “Wilson-Mikity-Syndrome” have been reported. While one of the infants died at the age of 6 months survived the other two showing a improvement of the radiologically registered alterations. The histological examination of the first case showed strange alterations of the fibrous architecture of both lungs. The etiology of this syndrome has been discussed and a nosological separation from the “Hamman-Rich-Syndrome” is recommended.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Bericht über drei Frühgeborene, bei denen das typische Bild des Wilson-Mikity-Syndroms beobachtet wurde. Während das eine Kind mit 6 Monaten starb, überlebten die beiden anderen Kinder und zeigten eine Rückbildung der röntgenologisch nachweisbaren Veränderungen. Die histologische Untersuchung des ersten Falles deckte ungewöhnliche Veränderungen des Fasergerüstes beider Lungen auf. Die Ätiologie dieser Erkrankung wird diskutiert und in nosologischer Hinsicht eine Abtrennung vom Hamman-Rich-Syndrom befürwortet.

    Description / Table of Contents: Summary A resumé of the finite element idealisation and matrix displacement analysis of a structure is presented. The stiffness matrix of a tetrachedra element, within which the stresses and strains vary linearly is then developed, emphasis being placed on the use of natural deformation modes. Using this element, two examples of arch dams are analysed and some typical results presented graphically.
    Notes: Übersicht Es wird ein kurzer Überblick über die Idealisierung durch diskrete Elemente und über die Matrizenformulierung der Verschiebungsmethode zur Untersuchung von Tragwerken gegeben. Die Steifigkeit eines Tetraederelements, in dem sich die Spannungen und Dehnungen linear verändern, wird abgeleitet unter besonderer Berücksichtigung natürlicher Verschiebungsformen. Unter Verwendung dieses Elements werden zwei Beispiele von Staudämmen untersucht — einige typische Ergebnisse werden graphisch dargestellt.

    Notes: Abstract Rate equations for the 0.6328 μ He-Ne-amplifier are solved. Photondensity, bandwidth and gain are calculated as a function of inversion density and the density of excited Ne atoms. At the point nearest to the threshold a maximum gain of 1.1×105 and a minimum bandwidth ofΔv=3×103 cps was experimentally realized. Good agreement was found between experimental and theoretical results.

    Notes: Zusammenfassung 1. Es wird ein Test zum Nachweis von Guajacol-Linolsäurehydroperoxid-Oxydo-reduktasen (GLO) beschrieben, der nicht von der Lipoxygenase gestört wird. 2. Untersuchungen der GLO der Sojabohne (Ammoniumsulfatpräparat) ergaben.: Die Aktivität ist linear proportional der Enzymkonzentration; bei 0,62 · 10−4 mol/l Linolsäurehydroperoxid erreicht das Enzym die höchste Aktivität, eine weitere Schon relativ geringe Zunahme der Substratkonzentration hemmt das Enzym fast vollständig; auch von der Guajacolkonzentration ist die Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit abhängig. 3. Durch Chromatographie an Sephadex-CM konnte die GLO von der H2O2-um-setzenden Peroxydase, nicht aber von der Lipoxygenase getrennt werden; vielmehr zeigten sich zwei Lipoxygenasen, die GLO-aktiv waren und im CAG-Elektropherogramm homogen blieben.
